Texas

Hi y'all! I am new on here and in the Texas Panhandle. (CANYON) Was wondering if there are any other Panhandle peeps on here?! If so, I want to hear about your experiences raising chickens with our uhhh... very variable weather and WIND? How do your chooks do with our winters and summers? How do you "help" them deal with such extremes?
I have my first babies ordered to come in on April 12th. Am getting SLW, BO, and EE.
Thanks for any information/advice!!!

TexasChickMom- I am in Big Sandy just north of Tyler. I usually candle the eggs just for my benefit, but we do not have to candle them for the kids. They just enjoy seeing them as eggs and then showing up to school one day and there are baby chicks in the incubator! Last year we got eggs from our local ag extension agent, but they were all meat birds and not fun at all! I'm not sure if you can PM me to see if we might could meet up. I am looking to start incubating them on Monday, March 19th. We have Spring Break next week, and I do not want to have to be up at the school everyday on my week off! Thanks again.

Hey everyone!!! The weather is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! I wish I was home and outside with the girls instead of at the office :) I tried to patch up some leaks from nails this weekend on my coop roof - the idea went a lot better in my head. I think I ended up with more tar on me than the roof did!! I think I'll see if I can sweet talk the ex into getting up there and doing it for me - since I'm on the chunky side :) I do NOT trust the roof to hold me up!!

The final chick count is 6!!! I have no idea what the chicks will be. As my breeding pens were ready, I was not separating my breeds. Here are some pics. (Hopefully they will load)

Hi, how are ya? Thanks for the welcome... I currently have barred rocks, white leghorns and a few black & blue copper marans. I have ordered some black sex link chicks from the local feed store and still awaiting their arrival, maybe tomorrow.

Howdy Tx812!!! welcome aboard!

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to find the instructions on this new site that tells me how to upload pics to this "new and improved" page. Yes, it is new and improved, but, although I work in front of a computer all day, my 5 year old knows more about these things than I do :(

I have uploaded them onto the site, but I can't figure out how to get them to post in my message. I remember from the old site that you just copied the URL (I think that's what it was called) into your message and *poof* the pic appeared. But now when I try to copy the image all I see is the .jpg file reference and not the actual pic :( What am I doing wrong??

I am actually hoping the rain will hold of a day or two (although I know we still need it) so I have time to attempt to finish tarring the roof to the coop. I left work yesterday (during the actual daylight hours :) and saw my first bluebonnets along 59 going into Cleveland. Spring is in the air!!
