Texas

Our sympathies for your nephews friend and we will keep your nephew in our prayers. Not from that area hopefully some one else can hook you up.

Hello Texas..from Michigan.

I am in search of a news article/ news station that may have covered an accident that took place on the night of or early morning of the 16/17th.

My husbands nephew was out there from here, and hit a tree going 80 mph- in Mount Pleasant. His best friend was killed. He is currently in intensive care with brain trauma and extensive injuries.

Can anyone link me to your news station online that may have ran a story on it?

Try Googleing Mount Pleasant, Texas......you should be able to find the Chamber of Commerce and local newspaper. That would give you a start.
So sorry to hear of the accident.

Well Texans, I would like to share some sad news. My two OLD ( 9 and 7 ) hens, who have been around since the towers fell, passed away over the weekend. One right after the other. My BA, who never had a name, was the first to go. Fell asleep on the roost and was found exactly the same way in the morning. It's funny, she was still laying a steady egg a day no matter the weather. She did take a break over the winter, and I got a little worried about her. Then it went away. Her best friend, just two years her junior, was found under the nesting boxes yesterday when I got home. They were cremated, did not bother with opening them up. I'm pretty positive they went out due to age and nothing more. So, RIP ladies. May you continue tearing up gardens across the rainbow bridge. Continue harassing someone when food is late, and making the loudest chimes when you lay eggs. Continue being the biggest hogs, and stealing all the best worms. You will be missed.

Sounds to me like they had a pretty sweet life. Funny how these little feathered creatures touch our hearts. :)

my grandmother just called me. There are 3 strays in my yard. I called animal control who told me to call sheriff's office. I called sheriff's office. Dispatch told me they won't pick the animals up because their facility is full. "We won't pick them up unless they are vicious. Are they vicious?" I said I don't know but I told my 89 year old grandmother to stay inside. I said I have expensive livestock out there -what am I supposed to do???? This is such crap!!!! She said she would have someone call me. I'm not supposed to shoot them unless they are in the act of attacking something or someone. I'm not going to take the risk of trying to catch them and put them in my car to take them to the animal shelter only to be told they won't take them because they are full. I'm SICK of this!!!!!! Exactly what am I supposed to do?

It's a never ending battle, dealing with strays or neighbor's dogs. I've had an on going problem with my neighbor's yellow lab,(over the last 4 years). ACK!!
No one lives in the house (the guy's in prison and will be for a LONG time), his parents live about 2 hrs away (they are in their late 70's/early 80's, who come over about once a month or 6 weeks to see after the house and leave bags of dry dog food. The land is leased to a guy who keeps a few cattle on it, he comes to check his cows most weekends and is suppose to be sure the dog has dry food in his feeder.
But the poor dog is lonely and wants to spend his time on my place with my dogs. He's pretty much gone feral, won't let anyone get close to him. That's partly my fault since I've shot my pistol, not AT him, just at the ground to scare him off.
A while back I talked with a Sheriff's Deputy, he told me I could shoot him if he came on my place, since he had a history of killing my chickens. I can shoot snakes and tin cans, but I could never shoot a dog. So the problem continues.

I am so sorry for your loss. I do know how you feel. I am starting to lose some of my elderly ladies too. And I am pretty sure some of them died in sympathy of their lost friends. Chickens are very instinctive.

I'm in East Texas and new to keeping chickens. My chicks are still in their brooder, but I havent bought a coop yet. Any suggestions on what is the best kind for 6 hens?
