Hi Binkysmom78--

welcome to the forum -- You came to the right place for answers for your questions about chicKens. (sorry the K Key on my computer just stopped worKing normally.) You will really enjoy this forum.

Hi all!! Does anyone in or close to the DFW area have any blue/green/pink egg laying hens (young) for sale? I'm having trouble filling egg orders and just need a couple more currently laying hens to help out. I'm willing to drive a little bit and will pay a fair price for them. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me and have a GREAT day!!

I'm so excited!!! i decided at the last minute to enter 2 hens into the show in Beaumont Saturday. This will be my first show and since I decided this at the last minute, I know the girls won't be in top show condition, but I'm gonna do my best to make them presentable :) Gonna go take another look at the SOP right now. I'll be showing a BCM hen and a blue copper maran hen . I'm hoping for no disqualifications

Hi everyone I was wondering what you wonderful Texans do when the heat hits? I know I stay in the A/C more and I even bring the dogs in but I can't bring the chickens in, so what do you when it hits 110 outside? They have a small coop and run and I can put them under a nice big tree but other then that I have no idea. Help I don't want to lose my chickens and I want them to be comfortable.

Thanks

Make sure they have plenty of shade and water!!! I've seen folks make shade with tarps, big pieces of ply wood....what ever they had.

I use box fans in my coop (which is in my barn) to help pull in air from the shaded part of my barn. You can also freeze milk jugs of water and place those behind the fans or in their water to help cool them down or I guess you could just hang them in the coop to help cool the air.

Back in the day, people used "swamp coolers" ...basically a big fan that hung outside a house window... with water constantly dripping down a woven mat that was at the back of the fan.

Also you can chill watermelon and/or cantaloupe in your frig, then slice up and give as treats to your birds. Prayer always helps, let's all pray we don't have a summer like last year!!!

Weathermen said 2011 summer was the worst we've had in 50 years.

One of our 4H members is looking for some really nice Silkie chicks (show quality line) in Central Texas... sooooo I was wondering if anybody here might have some leads I can forward to his family? :)
