Tumbling K
Crowing
he's still skittish, but that is okay, just so long as he does his job. So far he is. We have set about 24 eggs, from that pen, and at the first candling, had most of them developing.

Hi. New to BYC. We are in Cypress Texas (better known as NW Houston these days). We have had chickens about six months now and really enjoying. We are starting up an herb business and plan to get Rabbits soon.
We have a rule here on our farm. We have taken on the responsibility to provide for and protect our birds and all our other animals. Anyone or anything (and I mean anything) that comes on our property with the intent of doing harm or damage is subject to meet their maker in a hurry. We will fire a warning shot the first time, but after that they are at their own risk.
x3Excellent rule!! I totally agree with you.
She's beautiful! Is your roo an AC also?
hello all!! I am new. Been lurking for a long time.
I am in West Texas.
I got my first chicks from Tractor Supply last spring. Then I decided to hatch some eggs in my classroom, and it's been a love affair since!
So far I have chickens (about 20), ducks (about a dozen), turkeys (4), guineas (about a dozen) and peachicks (5). Everything lives together, except the peas are in a smaller enclosure within the bigger yard.
Hello! I just started with a backyard flock of 5 in Central Texas!![]()
My chickens are just starting to go outside, and I'm trying to decide the best way to maintain my run in an efficient way and to keep the smell down because I'm in a neighborhood. My run is covered, so that will help keep some rain out! We've had plenty this year, that's for sure.
Would y'all let me know what you do in your run? I'm considering wood chips, leaves, sand, leaving it as dirt, or any mixture of those! I'm also open to suggestions. I'm hoping to keep the run from getting muddy. Thank you!!!!
Hannah
hey supergirl105.
I'm new from N Dallas.
I started by hatching eggs in my classroom too. Coolest project ever. Only 6 survived from 24 fertilized eggs. Ended up with 5 Roos to rehome and 1 hen of unknown breed (Kino was named by the student responsible for her after an anime character). Kino is an egg laying champion!
I have been thinking of adding 2 guineas to my little flock. They would free range over 7 acres with my dogs and sleep in the barn at night.
Am I dreaming of fun feathered friends for my dogs that are fun to watch and hear as well as are great bug control or is this a reality???
Gorgeous puppies. Where did you get them from?
She is pretty! How is her training coming along?Gorgeous puppies. Where did you get them from?
This is ours, she's about 6 months old now. Her name is Sugar.
Training with what? She is pretty! How is her training coming along?
sounds like you are training her...........?Training with what?
She's been raised with the birds since I got her. I trust her unsupervised with the birds now.
She does great.
I walked around the yard with her daily, so she knew our yard boundaries. She's never tried to escape. I know they are known for roaming, but since she has a "job" right here, she is content to stick close to home.
She knows shake, sit, laydown, and her recall command is "hotdogs." LOL I only call her if I have a hotdog, because these dogs won't listen to you if they don't feel like it, so I don't use that word unless I'm prepared to pay up. She does come to her name, too - but I don't reward her for her name.... not with how much my kids say her name. haha
