Hey guys! I'm way out in Midland! Anyone else raising chickens out west?

Howdy from Rosenberg! What kind of chickens do you have?

Wow I haven't seen Spanish Moss since I moved away from Savannah, GA… Loved the draped look. Where are you located at? I don't think I would purposely use it with our chickens.

Moss is a parasite on a tree, it will eventually kill the tree. Just sayin....
I use hay for my ducks.
When I asked Google she said this:

"Spanish moss is not a parasite like mistletoe. It's an advanced plant that depends upon trees for support and nutrients. Too much Spanish moss can shade the tree'sleaves and cause harmful stress. A little bit contrasts with the bright green color of atree and looks wonderful.Dec 23, 2004"

"Most bromeliads, including Spanish moss, are epiphytes. Epiphytes grow on other plants, but do not rely on them for nutrients. They take nutrients from the air and debris that collects on the plant. ... Spanish moss is commonly found on oak and cypress trees, but can grow on other plants as well."

"5. Although Spanish moss grows on trees, it is not a parasite [PDF]. It doesn't put down roots in the tree it grows on, nor does it take nutrients from it. The plant thrives on rain and fog, sunlight, and airborne or waterborne dust and debris."

and my friend wasn't the only one to get chiggers :

Spanish moss shelters bats, birds and reptiles. More than one stroll through the woods has been ruined thanks to chiggers, the invisible, itch-engendering mites

Here's how you could rid it of insects:

didn't find anything on it being a parasite -- but I suppose enough of it could stress a tree

How are the city regulations in Midland? We currently live in Corpus Christi but my mom lives in Andrews and my husband and I are thinking of moving up to that area as well but we dont have a place to keep our horses up there yet and we don't want to have to get rid of our flock either.

One of my baby hens got out the enclosure and my lab go a hold of it and I also have one that is a Rhode Island Red Rooster. I am looking for two hens to replace them. I am looking for two hens in the 4 to 6 week age range. I am willing to trade the rooster for a hen as well. I am looking for a good laying breed. Does anyone know where I can get these two hens?

I live in Mission Texas.

Thanks in advance.
