Texas

Wow my broody hens are a pain. I just pulled 30 eggs out from under them. I had to use a towel over their heads to get them off the nest after getting attacked a few times today. I now have two broody hens. They aren't happy at all but oh well they are sitting on sterile eggs anyway I might need to get them some fertile eggs locally from craigslist maybe some EE's I just wish they werent brooding in the back of a 4 foot high section in the coop.

So we looked at CL and silkies look like the best option here. I think them being trained by my bigger girls looks like our best option, and will keep the roosters in check. As far as the 4 foot high portion of the coop that is getting nailed shut tomorrow so we won't be dealing with that tomorrow any longer.
You are looking at more serious broodies, you know that right?

Happy Sunday Fellow Texans! :frow
Just wanted to pop-in and introduce myself, my name is Tammy and i own 14 backyard, free range hens. I have a variety of breeds as we enjoy seeing the variety of egg colors and sizes.

I am still interested in native shrubs for the Hill Country which i can plant in and around their large run for those times we need to pen them up. Suggestions are welcome as I prefer to do things that have some kind of track record with others. Wasting money on trial and error plantings is not really desired.;)

Do you have something in your area, even if you didn't plant it yourself, that is working? Even if it popped-up naturally. Size is not really an issue as I have some space to work with. I have alkaline, clay like, blackland prairie soil with LOTS of rocks in it.

Much Appreciated.
