Texas

Happy Sunday Fellow Texans! :frow
Just wanted to pop-in and introduce myself, my name is Tammy and i own 14 backyard, free range hens. I have a variety of breeds as we enjoy seeing the variety of egg colors and sizes.

I am still interested in native shrubs for the Hill Country which i can plant in and around their large run for those times we need to pen them up. Suggestions are welcome as I prefer to do things that have some kind of track record with others. Wasting money on trial and error plantings is not really desired.;)

Do you have something in your area, even if you didn't plant it yourself, that is working? Even if it popped-up naturally. Size is not really an issue as I have some space to work with. I have alkaline, clay like, blackland prairie soil with LOTS of rocks in it.

Much Appreciated.
Have you tried the Native Plant Society Of Texas for recommendations.

On a side note, we picked up a couple of cordless drill garden augur bits. They make fast work of digging out holes for transplanting in our hard packed silty sandy salty soil. Totally worth the 40 bucks we spent on the two sizes we bought. We got one from home depot that makes 3 inch holes and another that only makes 2 inch holes(TSC), but since my starts go into a 1 inch by 8 inch deep starter cone they are totally adequate. Highly recommended. :thumbsup

Here is a picture of the smaller of the two:

edit- as a follow on post in future when using the larger bit, well I'll get a powered Makita or Milwaulki from the pawn shop to do those holes. As my 25 year old 18V drill was a bit challenged by this task.

I'm just hopimg the 20V Vmax series will be better. Bought those just now so might be selling some stocks so the wife doesn't get too annoyed. I did mention my tools are 25 years old.

OMG are there no other Texans who eat breakfast tacos here? I love the ones with rotell in them(Mexicano), better than ham bacon or potato. I bet a few of our border folks have their own favorites and would love to hear from them.

It is just awesome living 1 mile from a decent tacoria.
