Texas

I hope all of you are surviving the rains and storms. We have so many springs on our property that my chicken runs haven't been completely dry for several weeks. :hitI think I need ducks.
I'm in west Texas. We've had a couple rainy days, but my problem is my lovely hens are making their own dust baths ALL OVER our run. It's so dry here they have plenty of options for dust bathing UGH In all seriousness, we're praying for all who are in those flooded areas.

I love west Texas. It is so beautiful, as is all of Texas.
It has been a weirdly wet season here in the eastern part of the state. But I'm sure we will be wishing for rain again by August.

They are everywhere in Texas. Mostly wild populations. I have seen some people that have 'captured' them and have begun raising them domestically. You'll need a whole host of permits to do so legally.
We are letting the swampy end of our pond grow a little wild in order to attract more ducks and other wildlife. I'm really hoping that the whistling ducks return this year. In the mean time, we have several blue herons, mallards, and some type of long necked black geese.
We also have an abundance of giant woodpeckers this year. I love their spooky jungle call!

Wow, a Red-bellied woodpecker, haven't seen one of those in years.

Making more progress on putting up the the walls for the second chicken coop for the silkies. Silkies are cute, and chicken wire is cheap but a royal pita to install in the Texas heat. I need to grow more arms for this cheap stuff. Also where this coop is sited ts will be adequate for keeping out feral cats or possums. I will never ever deal with chicken wire again after making this experience, I'll just go straight up with expensive hardware cloth.

You might want to stop now and get the hardware cloth instead.
Chicken wire sucks for keeping critters out.
