Texas

My long term plans don't include keeping more than the one black silkie roo, maybe a partridge silkie and a white silkie roo around for breeders. All the blue ones I got way to many of those guys and I can get 50/50 blues from a black roo as it is.

Sothe blue roos all have a date in the future for the stock pot most likely depending on if they do or dont develop the blue ear lobes.

Here's the latest fashion shoot!
hatched 4/23 and need a new home. Also all the silkies appear to be beardless so none of that 1970's era under cheek fluff totally a plus! edit @RUNuts last part was a nice pun for you!

Hey all - we have our basic coop now!

For all y'all types that are super talented at building and just throw together your coops from all the extra materials in your barn - this is not for you.

But if you're in the DFW area, and you're more a city folk like me, or a half-crip like me, and want to have a coop built for you - I can say very good things about Little Chicken Coop on the Prairie.

It wasn't cheap. But it's very nice, and I think I am avoiding all the first-time-coop regrets!

They are everywhere in Texas. Mostly wild populations. I have seen some people that have 'captured' them and have begun raising them domestically. You'll need a whole host of permits to do so legally.
Yes we have a mated pair that check our yard regularly in the evening to clean up scratch leftovers, they show up around here in the valley in late winter, and spring time usually. Then disappear somewhere come summertime.

Like loads of wild bird populations they are monogamous and mate for life(Whistling Duck's that is). Same for our resident Green Jays(cat food thieves).

That's good. If anyone in the area has any point-of-lay Blue, Splash, Silver-laced, or Lavender English-type Orpington pullets please let me know. I'm still trying to expand my breeding flock from a breeding pair and an unrelated 2.5 month old pullet. I do have some 6 and 3 week started birds I'd be willing to trade as well. :)
