Texas

I took a trip to Seabreeze hens yesterday...4 hours each way. Meant to get 4 birds and came home with 9, but I had to just the time and gas lol. I got a trio of Cream Legbars that are GORGEOUS, a quad of Crele Penedesencas, and a pair of Blue Australorp. Last on my list are a couple crested Swedish Flower hens.
Pics, anxiously awaiting! :pop

Pics don't do these birds justice. The Penedesencas aren't much to look at because they were getting picked on so I got a deal on them for being "ugly". They're only a month old though and will feather out nicely.

The Legbars are what I am especially in love with. I got one lovely light colored pullet and a striking dark pullet, and a cockerel I have named James Dean. My EE/LB rooster Abe is anxiously looking forward to the maturation of these two girls, the little perv.

The blue Australorps have another home lined up as soon as they are a bit bigger. You can see the pullet in the picture above and the cockerel is that blue thing with the picked back at the bottom of the picture.

I also recently added some EE pullets from a nearby feed store:

I think I will expand my run after all because I am even more paranoid about the hawks now that I have so many keepers that took a lot of effort to get. The birds I really like seem to have targets on their backs that only predators can see.
I just got a new prefab coop to set up for the roosters that will keep them separate and limit the assaults and allow them to free range daily and I'll just let the girls and special boys out when I am home. I'm thinking I will add two more kennel panels to my run to make it 25x35 and build a roof over 15x25 of it so they'll have some more shade and I won't have to deal with more netting. It would be bigger if I did it 30x30 but that would make covering it harder, plus it's on a slope so this is the easiest configuration.

Thanks!

On another note I just ordered 15 Swedish Flower Hen eggs . I think I'm going to expand my coop from 8x10 to 8x14 to help with my growing flock lol. Luckily it is a plastic modular shed and relatively easy to expand! The roof is the hardest part.
You keep doing 'chicken math' you're going to have to expand.
