Howdy from Austin county! Young engaged couple of new ag farmers over here already starting our little family with a big baby German Shepard (just over a year old), two amazing no-shed rescue kittens - an orange American shorthair tabby & solid black Bombay that are somehow brothers, 14 mixed flock Chickens and two Spanish Black turkey hens who are secretly our favorites. Oh and some wild human and animal neighbors, and in-laws! We love our home and work nonstop to keep the farm going and everyone thriving.

We are committed to contributing to wildlife conservation efforts and intent on raising heritage breed turkeys. Currently building out our farm including a big turkey enclosure and looking for more Spanish Black Toms in particular and a breeding brood of Royal Palm and Midget Whites.

Also likely looking to own or to foster/raise a pregnant/ with newborn pure Brahman cow. We have the space but not the equipment yet nor desire to breed or slaughter at this stage.

I noticed many people on this thread have miniature dachshunds. I (the wife) am ecstatic as I’ve have owned smooth minis my whole life and sadly lost my pair of senior aged doxies suddenly a year ago. Small dogs aren’t ideal out here in the country but I can’t imagine never owning one again so I’m sure another pure doxie and probably another Shepard is in our future. Likely a female. Chocolate and tan is my absolute favorite. Send puppies my way!

Grateful to be in Texas and here in this moment with y’all. Best wishes!

Travis county right? Or is there an Austin County I am unaware of in TX? I can't imagine ever wanting to own that breed of dog but if you love them and know how to work em more power to you. I just remember being put in charge of one and it killed any living thing it could fit in its mouth by one of my lieutenants in the Army. Plus the scars on my legs are from a dachshund.

https://www.austincounty.com/page/austin.home seems there is one. Having lived in Austin I am a little bit biased, welcome to the Texas thread.

Very much Austin county ;) I thought you were referring to the German Shepard before that last bit! She’s the crazy one. All mouth, all teeth. Not aggressive but so strong and big when she jumps she terrifies people. Even ‘dog people’. Got about another year before she grows out of this hyper mouthy puppy phase too. I’ve heard various horror stories about vicious dachshunds but I really can’t say I’ve ever had any experiences like that with miniature smooth solid colored dachshunds in particular. I get specific not to be a snob but actually for this very reason. It’s known amongst dachshund lovers that different variations within the breed have behavioral variances too, call em quirks. Differences between mini and standard, wire, smooth & long haired, dilute, dapple, piebald...even more interesting is what in the world was the army doing with a dachshund? Scent hound?
