Texas

Ran outta sun light and the temp dropped to fast. Only got about 1/2 way through the piping band-aid in the well house. When I got home discovered the Koi pond pump piping burst. They lost almost 1/2 of the water that wasn't frozen. I'll be prepping the air pump shortly... Need to boost the O² level for them before long.....
i feel your pain there! and we need pics of your koi btw!!! i accidentally froze one to death last spring trying to add water during a relatively warm day and overflowed it and DS1 koi flashed and jumped out (it was a good size platinum ogon) 🤬🤬🤬 i replaced it for his graduation

I think I have a shot or two saved on the phone.... Will ETA when I find them ... after feed everyone & me too?

ETA here is when I got it installed last year when neighbor as me to take them as they were moving... The styrofoam is actually a summer insulation wall to keep from the sun boiling them. Worked incredibly well too.

Okay time to feed everyone....

46 this morning.
A couple more Chilly notes, then I can put all the plants out for the year.
Sighs.....I think we made it. I hope everyone is safe, warm, cool, and getting their lives back to almost normal. On thing I did notice this past week, for months the news was totally covid, how many deaths, illn vaccine, distribution etc...to the point I was sick of hearing about it. This past week, crickets, nothing, it's been weather, electric, water etc ....
Yesterday, news started talking vaccine, so I know the news thinks its back to normal.
It will take months for Texas to regroup-but its started.
Have a good day

Life is beautiful

Lunch today.....I'm sick of soup, stew, black eyed peas so....
Meatloaf, mashed taters, green beans

Fed chickens, found a pork spare rib (2ribs) in fridge from a few days ago-birds went crazy over it. Chicken football.
An hour later, their still pecking over it. They did manage to separate it into 2 ribs, and still squabbling.

I can't help but agree. Having used heat lamps HEAVILY for reptiles for like 7 years now and my tortoise who while indoors has a steady supply of hay and dried grass and never once have had a situation even close to causing a house fire. However I've seen quite a bit of how lack of education surroundinf proper heat lamp care can get people awfully close. I think respecting electricity and heat lamps for what they are makes a ginormous difference in how likely it is
Tip : never set a heat lamp on your car pumper, I did that and it wasn't pretty. 🙄 Modern cars aren't made entirely of steel like they use to be.

Did you ever see the Jay Leno's Garage bit on the Jet cycle? The exhaust started to melt a cars bumper at a red light....... :lau

Yay people, I am back - power, water, internet- hallelujah.. No water for a few days. Boiled snow for the animals and melted it for flushing. Did take an occasional spit bath. Yesterday I finally got internet and wifi back after a week- talk about withdrawal - no social media, no streaming movies or shows, no checking the weather reports, no kindle books, no internet games on my phone. Today, I ran water in my big pots and boiled it for dishes- used a little bleach in the rinse water, finally mopped my floor too. Will be glad when I can take a full on hot soaky bath with hair wash. I guess I could, but it does not seem sanitary yet - if tap water is full of bacteria, can it be good to sit on your skin? Still drinking bottled water though. They recommend boiling water til the end of the week at least.
The weather is beautiful though- sun shining, mid 50's already. The wind is blowing, but not too blustery. The chickens are out and about dust bathing and pecking. Life is good.
