Texas

I'll be moving come spring if everything works out the way I plan. Plans, heh. Anyway I hope to be on a few acres somewhere around Spring or Tomball or something. Even Magnolia.

By the way I have a couple of Easter Egger pullets available. They will likely be laying in about a month. I plan to put them on Craigslist eventually but if anyone wants them now and can come pick them up (Spring Branch/Memorial area) I'll let them go for 8$ each. They are from Ideal I think. Got them at Wabash feed.

Lightening ... I'm the one who got the the WH from you! Lol! Too bad someone wasn't wanting a pet quality the one wit the irregular band would make a good pet.

Hello from Orange Grove (1 hour North of Corpus).

I moved from North Idaho to South Texas in October of last year. I didn't bring any of my birds with me :-( but we had purchased 5 guinea keets a while back cause the ticks are HORRID! Unfortunately, dummy me forgot to put them up last week and I lost all 4 of them :-( They were my little buddies and the only birds I am allowed to have till I get my coup built are guineas.

If ANYONE has 3-5 guinea keets in the area that they are willing it sell - please let me know. I will be traveling to San Antonio the first weekend in November for the festival and could pick them up on Sunday on the way home.

thank you

Welcome to Texas. That was quite a move for you from one weather extreme to another. Good luck on your guineas. (and whatever else you can manage to acquire).

I was so tired when I responded to your note I didn't quite pick up on that (lol)! When I reread your post yesterday, I knew immediately who you were and smacked myself in the forehead for not figuring it out the first time! I'm sorry to say that it's too late for my extra drakes, as three of them went to freezer camp this weekend. So, I have one Welsh Harlequin drake left and the Cayuga drake.

New to raising chickens, well we only have one but plan on adding at least one more soon. My mom bought a 3 day old chick on a whim, she likes to do that. She got it for my 9 1/2 year old daughter who would fill our house with many more pets if we allowed her. We have had Nugget since Saturday afternoon and she seems to be doing great. We (me and my daughter) have been researching how to care for her along with coop and run designs. My husband and I have figured out a coop design that we hope will work in N. Texas but I am curious to see what other's in N. Texas have done with their coops.

In all fairness to the chick/s it is best to have at least three IMHO. Chickens are meant to be in flocks and do so much better that way. Why three instead of just two? Because if for some reason one dies/gets killed, etc. then the other bird is not left alone. One other suggestion - when planning your coop it is best to put your money in large & sturdy rather than "cute" or overly fancy. They are fun and I know you all will enjoy having them!

I agree with Jeanette56! They are much happier with a few friends. If you only have two and one dies the other will stop laying and be stressed until you can either buy another adult and quarantine then get them together or grow up a chick. You also want as big as you can build. You never know if you will enjoy having them and want more. You have a big space and it will stay cleaner longer. Good luck with your little fluff ball!
