With it being Texas, 80+⁰ 9 months of the year, I didn't/don't want a closed in box coop. And my mistake was not extending overhang more.

I would just tarp the north and east sides

I have a 2' x 8' piece of plywood that I put up for a wind break on the north wall to close off the summer ventilation. Would you want to screw plywood up for the winter on 2 walls? Fiberglass panels?

Good thought! Gotta figure out how to get plywood or panels. That won't fit in a Honda civic. I do have a couple sheets of metal roofing.... and a possible source of a couple more-but I see that as permanent

I added some clear plastic to back of coop, to block rain. This is temporary, need to figure a permanent solution. Ideas?

Yeah…. I’ve done a plexiglass flip up option test last year on 2 side of the run…. It worked nicely. I do want to get more of this material and make more “piano hinged flaps of clear plexiglass.

When you say storm shelter, why do I hear chicken coop?

I mean, it's a brilliant idea, but a little over built for that purpose. On the bright side, the chickens will share in bad weather and you won't worry about chicken poop getting everywhere if you have a nice layer of deep mulch bedding. It'll give it that lived in and homey smell.
