So one of the babies from this hatch is a week old and is already trying to crow. Just wow.

In the meantime, my almost 15 week old Wheaten Marans cockerel hasn't made a peep

My cockerels crow early and identify as gumbo. This last one is not as loud and is on borrowed time. I have too many chores, but he's on the list.

Thank you! My husband tried to put ants from 2 other colonies on there but they got whooped so I put down mound destroyer. If they're dead I'll shovel it out and throw it in the trash and go about my business.

Can you please send me a link for the mound destroyer you used, and is it safe for the girls? Thanks so much.

My ladies didn't mess with it, but I didn't give them access to it for a couple days after it was put down (but definitely not safe for them)

This year I'm planning to sell chicks for the first time so anyone interested in some dark chocolate eggers, olive eggers, blue eggers, or barred rocks to complete your rainbow basket just let me know. I'll be putting my first batch of eggs in the incubator this week.

How have everyone's girls been laying? This warm weather has convinced my girls that Spring is here. All of my girls have been continuously laying, but today was the first day since mid December that I got an egg from every hen.

How have everyone's girls been laying? This warm weather has convinced my girls that Spring is here. Got an egg from everyone for the first time in 2025.

My Barred Rock has been laying all winter. My Easter Egger started laying after her molt mid December. My Speckled Sussex started laying the last week of January. None of my other girls are laying.
