Welcome!Hi Waller, tx here.
Welcome to the Texas thread! I'm 45 minutes east of WacoHi Waller, tx here.
I have langshans and brahmas. Both have done better in the heat than some of my smaller breeds. To be honest, I don't care about SOP as much as egg color. I want them to be healthy, though. I'm just selling eggs for eating, not breeding.
Also, I'm second guessing BCM because I'm worried how they'll do in the heat. Any thoughts on the heavier breeds with feathered feet being able to handle our summers?
Hi Waller, tx here.
Yay! Please keep us posted with your upcoming new babies!I've got some hatching at the end of this month![]()
Yes! There's a place in Shepherd that's a family-run poultry farm. They breed some but they also get a ton of chicks from Ideal. I like grabbing some from them because I don't have the stress of mail order. I have 2 Welsummers from them (I believe originally from Ideal) and they lay nice eggs.I have langshans and brahmas. Both have done better in the heat than some of my smaller breeds.
I do recommend the welsummers from Ideal hatchery out of Cameron. Mine lay dark reddish brown speckled eggs.
I forgot to include the pictures of their parents! My Self Blue/Lavender, Black Mottled, Showgirl, and Spilt to Lavender Silkie Bantam chicks are finally here! They were hatched on February 6th, 2025 and I am in love with them so much!
