Howdy Y'all!

I'm Don and I now reside in the BOOMING metropolis of Jarrell, Texas ... about 40 minutes north of Austin.

Born and partially raised in NW Pennsylvania then to Arizona to spend the better part of 40 years.

My new bride and I moved here less than 6 months ago and already I agree with a sticker I've seen a few times, "I wasn't born here, but I got here quick as I could."

Our current (and first) bout with chickens consists of 6 kids ... 3 barred rocks that were sold as pullets are actually amigos ... the 3 gold laced wyndottes were supposedly silvers. Oh .. and it turns out that my Great Dane is really a basset too.

Hey - I was glad to see fellow Texans!!

I am a newbie and just acquired 26 ameracaunas (I know, EE's) yesterday - long story but they fit in nicely with the rest of the menagerie!!

Located about an hour south of Amarillo!!!!

Please add me to your list. Wilson TX, south of Lubbock. I am in the middle of a winter remodel of an old brick building (circa 1940) my grandad built to house an as-yet-undertermined flock. He used to make his own bricks even, it should be a good coop. I might add some pics when I get her going.

My question is this. I have determined I want a varied mixture of birds. I like the Dominique roo (from years ago past experience) but we never bred them, so if I had some silkies, would this roo probably breed all the hens and if so, do you get some sort of Frankenstein chickens out of a crossbreed like that? I would assume so, I don't see chickens as being all that picky (Oh dude, you bred the ugliest ONE).

Also, anyone else around me, feel free to post, I figure I will have the coop and run finished by end of Jan, get some chicks in Feb or so, and they should be good to turn out late March. Can't wait to get the babys in.

Any suggestions on where to find Buff Orpingtons locally without getting them shipped to me?
Getting coop ready this winter and want to populate in Spring.

Funky Chicken Coop tour sounds like a plan...I am interested.

Hi Carla and TX...

Checking to see if we made it to the list? We're located in Huntsville, TX just up I-45 from Houston. We got our first chicks in June '08. Started with the Meat and Eggs combo and "dispatched" our broilers... fell in love with our layers and now we are up to 40 + total. We have all different kinds... 2 white leghorns, 1 BR, 1 PW, 6 Dom, 15 BO, 4 PR, 1 Redstar, 2 LB, 1 Australorp, 4 Lav. Guineas, 3 Pekin ducks and maybe a couple that I've left out?! My wife and I have 2 boys (9 & 7) who are selling the eggs... so Donald Trump watch out!

We call our little place out in the country The Red Top Ranch.
