My husband isn't military, but he worries about the same problems!!!!

Sounds like he had a "few" issues...

My husband did his fair share of worrying the first time he was deployed because he had heard the horror stories.. but 4 deployments later I'm still here and so is all his stuff!

the only thing he has to worry about when he's gone is if I will do something stupid to hurt myself (like rolling my ankle the other day) or how many new birds he will come home to that he will have to help butcher.. lol
yea i came home to a fixed weda!!!! my am bully! she was aboot 5 yrs old when she finally got fixd... i was upset but she needed it...

i think we all worry aboot our better halves hurting them selves while we are away at work or deployed.... i know i always worried about my wife and kids when i was at work!

My husband has good reason to worry... I have been known to do stupid things... just before he left this time I ended up ripping out my one of my big toe's toenail .. and i mean ripping it out root and all.. had to go to a clinic to have them finish it up. Then it had to stay bandaged for months while the nail was trying to grow back.
Then in November I tore up my shoulder... no idea how I managed to do that one...

One previous deployment I ended up breaking my foot when one of the horses we had at the time stomped down on it...

He tells me I am an accident waiting to happen... *sighs*

So when I told him I am planning on putting in new pens and a couple of new coops starting next month .. guess what he told me?.. Not "try not to spend too much"... no... instead he tells me "well be careful and don't hurt yourself"! In my head I could hear him adding "again" to the end of that sentence.....

That last bit is always the sign of a good relationship **grins**  But, I used to work reptile rescue, so I can and have handled snakes....it's snakes in the wild that get on me without my say so that freak me out.  Mike says it's the control freak in me.  He also swears that's why I have issues with spiders.  Cuz you have next to no control at all over a spider.

My husband is fearless.  He was doing the Colorado rapids last year (yes, at 65) and they got stuck on a boulder.  Couldn't get off, and the rest of the team (in their late 20s early 30s) had already gone on ahead.  His mate was totally flipping out.  Mike?  He grabs hold of the little raft they were on (one of those inflatable cats) and jumps down INTO THE BLOODY RAPIDS.  Turns himself into a sea achor, basically.  Using the force of the water against his body to pull the boat off of the boulder and then climbing back up on the boat as they continue through the rapids.  I told him it's a shame I can't get more life insurance on him....he's bound to make me a widow one of these days.  He just laughs.

I'm with your husband, girl...hand me a gun and I'm ready to go.  I don't mind the butchering part.  And, the gutting and cleaning isn't too bad; but, I would much prefer the parts to NOT be moving when I'm reaching in to yank them out. TYVM.  **shudders**  I have done surgical procedures on animals in the past; and, we are considering trying caponizing...but, if I have my druthers, I'll pass the buck to Mike in a heartbeat (no pun intended).

As far as getting under the house is concerned?  I'm soooo glad we're on a slab.  Cuz, even the bit of getting under the porches that I have to do to tweak my sprinklers and such squiks me out.  Knowing there are creepy crawlies down there I can't get away from just makes my skin crawl.  Maybe I'll set the girls loose under there for a day or so to clear out a path for me, if I need to get down there, again. **snickers**

And - while the house in on a slab, we have full length porches on front and back - so there is a lot of space to still be crawled in, unfortunately :(

My husband used to be into extreme sports when he was living in Utah... me?.. I break too easily thank you (waaay too many broken bones in my life). Heights don't bother him in the least.. they bug me IF I don't have something stable to grab onto .. yes gravity is a B**ch and is why I have broken so many bones... (right shoulder broken in 2 places, left wrist broken twice with both bones broken both times and 2 breaks per bone each time I did it, collar bone crushed, broken fingers.. all toes broken at least 3 times (some 4 times), broken hip, chipped and cracked discs, broken foot... a torn knee and now a rolled ankle...)

We both love to go shooting and when he gets back from Afghanistan we are hoping to go boar hunting. Naturally he wants me to go along since he isn't too sure on how to field dress one and I have already told him that I get to keep the heads in case he has any buddies that want to tag along. (I am still in need of a nice boar skull with tusks). Plus hog head is pretty darn good when roasted! The skulls are better off not roasted though if I want to salvage the skull.
i want to play around with caponizing.. I know he would "assist" .. but that's pretty much standing there to watch me do it.. lol

Part of our house is on a slab.. but that's the section with no heat and not enough room to crawl under anyway.. the rest is pier and beam.. so plenty of places for the creepy crawlies to hang out...
So yinepu how did you break so many bones in your lifetime? I've had 3 broken wrists, a collarbone, fingers, bone in my hand, 3 torn rotator cuffs, torn bicep, & 13 concussions from my jockey career :th

I'm the same way.. my husband looks at me like I am insane when I get up in the middle of the night because I heard a fox or coyote out in the yard...
I can hear the chickens or geese at 2 AM even though they are on the North side of the barnyard and our bedroom is all the way on the other side facing South...

needless to say I don't sleep much.. and with a new puppy in the house I sleep even less

Good luck with that new puppy!! ...and my motto is that I can always sleep when I die!!

riding donkeys as a kid and getting thrown
working around horses
roller skating lessons (that ended badly lol)
walking... yup.. I broke most of my toes by walking.
gymnastics (which also ended badly)
one of my sisters pushed me down the stairs when I had the broken shoulder and a few broken toes at the time...

Just pretty much day to day sort of stuff...

Funny thing is I never broke a bone when jumping out of hay lofts or off of the barn roof... (ok.. so I wasn't a very bright kid)

As a kid I had a condition where the calcium wasn't going to any of my bones.. it was going to my skin instead.. so my bones were like glass and my skin had weird reactions with overly processed soap. So when I went to take a bath or even just wash my hands with any soap like that my skin would peel off in big sheets leaving raw bleeding flesh underneath

Luckily I "out grew" that... but I have still broken a few bones as an adult.. mostly from working around horses

Good luck with that new puppy!! ...and my motto is that I can always sleep when I die!!

thanks.. she is a little terrorist... even though she's a cute little terrorist

**laughs** My husband swears I can't walk 10 feet without falling. There is something wonky with my ankles in the last few years that makes just basic walking difficult if I hit any sort of contortment in the ground. Considering we live on a slight slope and "grow rocks", it's a given that our ground is not very flat. I have as yet to break a bone **knocks wood**

I don't get "be careful and don't hurt yourself"....nooooo....I get "don't do anything stupid"...cuz, yeah...well, maybe I have a tendency of doing some rather not so bright things. Ironic all things considered. But, I have some serious moments where my brain just jets off to Tahiti without me.

Man, I winced reading through all the bumps and breaks you've gone through. I'm amazed and astounded :)

I finally bought a large bird netting over the internet (25 x 50') and used half to cover their pen, to keep the hawks out, and the other half to cover the garden to keep the chickens out when I let them free range. I'm still new at chicken keeping but there's plenty more who can help you.
Knobby, do you happen to remember where you got this, or anyone else for that matter knows where to get large peices of netting material? I am wanting to put a cover over my run and was atucally thinking about using that camo stuff made for deer/duck blinds in order to give shade to the run as well. Anyone got any insight on this?
