If you want real camo netting, try www.sportsmansguide.com. I just looked on their site (where I have bought all kinds of neat stuff) and they had several to choose from, including this one. The hawks couldn't see your birds, much less get at 'em!

Welcome to BYC. I live in Edom, so we're sorta neighbors. I too was looking for Ameracuana hens. I do have a place you can try. She's in Terrell, about an hour away, but she has all ages, which sounds like what you're needing. http://chickenvilleusa.homestead.com. I've put my order in at Ideal, but have to wait until April for some day old chicks. At least they won't need lots of extra friends to help keep them warm by then. Good luck in your quest! Hope this helps

there is a lady in Farmersville that does have black lavender split.ameraucanas which are pure ameraucanas laying the blue egg and are wonderful quality! you can always tell an EE from ameraucana by leg color too...real ameraucanas have slate shanks, EE have green, yellow... really any color of shank aside slate makes it an EE they are crosses of the real ameraucanas.

Um...not quite the defining identifier - though it's definitely a DQ if they don't have slate shanks and white for the bottoms of their feet. If they are missing the shank colour, the muffs, a tail, red earlobes, etc...they are not Ameraucanas. The real deal breakers are: if they don't carry the blue gene...and, if they don't breed true at least 50% of the time.

What are Easter Egg chickens?
The Ameraucana Breeders Club defines an Easter Egg chicken or Easter Egger as any chicken that possesses the blue egg gene, but doesn’t fully meet any breed descriptions as defined in the APA and/or ABA standards. Further, even if a bird meets an Ameraucana standard breed description, but doesn’t meet a variety description or breed true at least 50% of the time it is considered an Easter Egg chicken.

If they don't meet the items listed on the criteria, they are EEs. My EE's have slate shanks and lay blue eggs (two out of the three). However, the bottoms of their feet are also slate. They are also "clean faced" (eg: no muffs). Since the muffs are one of the major qualifiers for an Ameraucana...well. They don't make the cut for qualification as anything other than an EE by the APA/ABA (until/unless I breed them and they breed true 50%+).

There is a chart out there that shows Auracanas vs Ameraucanas vs EEs that is really helpful when you are trying to identify between them. Auracanas are kinda a given with their cute feathers sticking out (tufts). Ameraucanas and EEs can be very difficult to distinguish from each other. Lots of people get them confused.

Personally, I love EEs. They are full of character.

You can find the chart I mentioned, here.

You can find breeders of qualifying Ameraucanas here.
