Just have to share. I got my first egg. Cute little brown one.

So much fun to find those!

This may not be the case but from what I have observed and others have told me it seems that the pullets feather out quicker while the Roos get bigger in size first.
One of my ee's is starting to get feathers along the back of its neck...these would be called the saddle feathers in a roo, correct? If they are saddles would they be coming in this quick? Chicks are right almost 2 weeks old, this is also one of my fullest feathered of my chicks and was the first to start its tail...which is easily twice the size of all the others in the brooder...could this be signs of a roo or could it just be a fast developer? I will attempt to get a pic or two in just a sec but am using my phone so im not sure how they will turn out.
I have two blue splash pullets two months old I lost my roo couple Weeks ago (introduced them to seed and I think it went wrong for him) On the other hand I think both of my solid blues are both Roos I'll post some picks tomorrow when the lights better
If anyone might be interested in a Splash Marans cockerel, PM me. I have 2 but only 4 pullets and it's just 1 too many boys in the mix for the girls. Good temperament, 7 1/2 months old. The splash do not lay as dark as the BCM's do, best I have had is about a 5.

My girls got to totally free range for their first time, today. We let them out this morning and let them have the full run of the place - supervised. I had a lot of yard work to do, so I figured I'd be on hand should anything untoward start to go down. They also got their "bracelets" as Mike calls them, today. Meeney had hers off within the first five minutes. I put it back on her and she's left it alone since then. Silly girls. It's good to have the bandettes on them, now - there were two I could never tell apart. We called them the twins (Eeney and Meeney). Now, they're 2 and 3 green.

That's Mo sporting her "pretty, new braclet".

I put bracelets on my eight today too. I could only tell one that was different and 7 were alike. Now they're numbered. Yippee!

I meant to add that they never even acknowledged that they had them on. I was expecting them to be exasperated with them. Ah, chickens...

The EEs totally ignored them even when I was putting them on. Mo had to look at hers a few times, and pose quite a few more. Eeney shook her leg for a few minutes then settled right in. But, Meeney - she was something else. She stumbled all around trying to get a real clear look at it. Shook her leg and drug it around. All drama queen, yanno? Then she snuck off to the nesting box, and came strutting out proud as could be with it off. **shakes head** Then she stole my husband's car keys (had fallen on the ground) and played keep away....Finally caught her and got her bracelet back on and she cackled about it all the way to bed time. What characters!

My dad has been in the hospital recovering from a car wreck, which is tough for anybody but especially when you're 87.  I just sent him a copy of that picture, and told him I know he's a tough old bird, too!!  I know he'll laugh like crazy when he sees that!

Man, lighting I didn't hear about your dads accident till. Now.. Hope he's doing well. I bet he'll love it! How are the ducks doing? The Cayuga is now in with everyone else... And very happy. Oh and I got to compare him to some sq ones...(g) he soooo is! Unless there is a little something hiding that I couldn't get close enough to see...
