Thank you for your kind welcoming.  I've been reading pretty much everything you can imagine on the forums here.  It's all been very beneficial.  Should I call our PO to let them know we have chickens coming closer to that date?  On my order ticket Mcmurray says I'll receive them between the 8th and 10th, but I read on here that they only ship on Fridays and Saturdays.....that's a long transit. 

Definitely call, it will help if they know who you are and why you are worried!

Hi everyone! Sorry to but in, but there is a lady near Houston that will be moving to Conroe and is looking to get some chickens..she will be a new chicken owner. I saw her post and told her to find the "Texas" thread. I'll see if I can find it again and copy it here...that way, if any of y'all can help her out, you can PM her.

Hello all!

My husband and I are located in Houston, and just starting a move to the Conroe area. We will hopefully be all moved by the end of april.

Our house here in Houston did not have enough room for chickens, but since we're moving, I'm starting to look into starting a flock. We're not new to animals, but definitely new to chickens!

If anyone has any advice at all, please send it my way. I think we'll be ready to get some chickens by June, which gives me plenty of time to research. I would like to find a hatchery near us so that I don't have to have them shipped. Any recommendations?

I also am not sure what breed would be best. I want a dual purpose chicken that thrives in this SE Texas heat. I'd also like a few different breeds. I'm thinking a four hen flock (and husband wants a rooster).

Anyone else located in or near Conroe? I'm excited to be starting the chicken-keeping journey!

i hope she does post! im just north of conroe by like 20 minutes, so i am definately in the vacinity and have my first group of T"eggs"ANS in the brooder now, finishing up my out door coup this weekend, as long as the rain holds!

. But yeah, it would be great to have a fellow newbie near by! Plus IDEAL is less than 2 hours from me...however that is if she wants hatchery chicks!
