Texas

I went and spoke to my local post office, and made out like I was doing them a favor to get the babies out of the post office. I joked about the chicks making so much noise, so they actually called me at about 5:30 am and met me at the front door with the box. May seem like overkill but it made an impression on them and I got my babies really quickly.
According to my cousin who worked for the post office, they would call early in the morning to get the people to pick them up as soon as possible because of all the noise. He said he hated to have to deliver them when no one would answer the phone. Nois-y!

at mine they think the chicks are cute.. always ask me what I got.. even though I don't think they could tell a leghorn from a bronze turkey!

**gasp** you mean there's a difference??

Put pics of them on this thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...d-tricks-pictures-included/2100#post_10590871 and they will tell you what sex they are.
There is a thread for everything on this site. I found one for fart eggs!

Just read through a good few pages on this thread and am very intrigued! once i get home looks like ima be torchering the poor little peepers to get some quality pictures of them! my two EE's seem like they are feathering completely opposite of one another....but one is getting the puffy cheeks. its the late bloomer that is developing those so maybe he will be a pretty roo...we shall see!

Hi, I am in Texas - in the DFW area.  My husband and I will be getting our first order of chicks on April 8th from Mcmurray.  We did it simple by getting half red star and half black star.  I grew up with them on my baby sitter's farm, but have never had any of my own.  We live out in the suburbs of Ft. Worth and our city allows up to 20 so we ordered 15.  We mostly have them for the eggs, but when they stop laying we're not going to let the meat go to waste so we will process them and eat them.  However, we've never done this so we would love it if someone is close by to teach us.  Anyhow, Hello everyone!

There is actual a very nice thread here on byc that shows a very humane and simple way to process your birds it was very helpful for my first time trying. The only problem I had was building up the nerve to do it.I still haven't gotten over that part of it.

Thank you Chucklecluck. I will have to search for it. I did watch a few youtube videos, but I am very much a learn hands on type person. I am nervous about the processing part too, but I know that's how my food gets to me and I think I would almost prefer to do it myself rather than the horrible conditions that I currently get my pre-packaged birds from at the supermarket. At least I know they had a great life and were well cared for. Also, my husband works long hours so the likelihood of him being the one processing the chickens....is very slim. So basically, I need to get up the courage.
