I am to the point where i have to start thinking about the interior decorating of my kiddo's coup. In this batch of chicks, i have one silkie and the rest are all LF. How high is too high for a silkie? and will there be a happy medium for that guy and my big guys as far as hanging a feeder?

Also, will 6 nesting boxes be enough for 15-20 hens? I am planning on just stuffing them with the same shavings that i am going to use on the floor, will that work or should i put something different in the nests?

I heard the rule for nesting boxes was 3-4 hens per nest box, so it should be enough. I was wondering about the roosts for the silkie stoo, I already have mine up, but I am pretty sure I made them too high for silkies... I might have to put another up or something.

i have a ladder type set up that im using for them to roost, and bottom rung shouldnt be too high...i was just more curious about the boxes and woter/food height

Yay! A feed store near me can get me three 4-5 month old ameraucana pullets! Dunno if they are actually ameraucana's or ee's but doesn't matter to me. Need some ladies for my flock xD

They are going to bring them to the feed store tomorrow and DH is going to take me to get them <3 I am so happy. I asked him to try and get some different colored ones if he could, but if not just grab what he can. They are probably just gonna be brown. I have been really wanting a white EE xP

quiet day today! i guess everyone else is feeling the whip-lash of spring break week...i know we are awefully bogged down for not having any carry-over from last week!

Moved my chicks into the coop Saturday. They were so quiet Sunday morning early that I went to check on them. My little boy tried so hard to sound the alarm when he saw me peeking in the window. Funny fellow just doesn't have his voice yet. It was precious him trying so hard though.
I've decided to use sand in the coop while I used pine shavings in the brooder. Letting them loose in the sand they loved to dust bathe.

On another note, I have a question. First flock, raised coop. Will they just "know" how to get outside using a ramp and back inside at the right time of day?
