I'll stick with my African Grey parrot! (yes, I have said before that I am highly allergic to children)Okay finally caught up on the last 150 post, kids baseball and work just get in my way!!!! I LOVE the talk of babies "talk", I "remember when...". Now it is just "mom, can I have this", "mom, can I have that", "mom, mom, mom, mom, mom" "WHAT?????", "I love you", makes it all worth it![]()

But... he never wore diapers.. will never demand that I buy him a car.. and I don't have to worry about him being out late at night running with the wrong crowd or getting preggers!![]()
The city only has enough water left for one year. The lake is at 30%. They are even telling the farms around here that they won't be able to water if/when we hit stage four. They are already making the carwashes in town close two days a week. The sad news is, I was going to be very smart about my watering and ONLY give the plants what they need. I've gotten a lot of mulch, and I'm going to get some more. Hoping that helps too...I don't know how they can keep you from watering your life supporting garden, that would be like telling you you can't water your livestock, jmo![]()
Yeah.. .when my pack of seeds was 50 cents and it gives me enough squash for the whole year, that doesn't really equal out. That much squash would probably cost me 100 bucks or more.. we eat a LOT of squash. Same for broccoli, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes...Mostly because unlike livestock, home gardens are not considered essential to a family home anymore. "just go buy it at the grocery store" is what you hear most people say. Stupid, yes.
I'll mulch more for sure. We don't have rain gutters, and it's a rent house... I am going to get some totes to collect rainwater or something though...Heavy mulching will help. I have used just plain old hay and it did a lot to help keep moisture in. Also, shading your plants will help. I've seen using old drapery sheers and light weight sheets tied to Tposts used as a canopy to help shield from so much sun.
Have you considered diverting your washer/sinks to use as grey water to water with? What about putting up barrels under your gutters. Find someone carrying the big blue barrels (that have not had poisons in them) for about $25/30 each, put in a spigot at the bottom and set under your gutters to catch any rain that you can.
I don't know what a keyhole garden is... need to look into that.I may have to try one of the keyhole gardens... most of the info on building them is pretty sketchy (everyone wants you to buy their book or pre-made garden.. lol)
But I think I figured out the basics
ME...is anyone doing the Easter hatch-a-long? how are things going if you are? what did you set?
I love African Greys... I'd own one if they weren't so moody with all but their "one person"... I have a Blue Headed Pionus.I'll stick with my African Grey parrot! (yes, I have said before that I am highly allergic to children)

Kids are NOT for everyone, just like all breeds of chickens or dogs are just not for everyone!!!! I LOVE my kids, but it is hard to even like other peoplesI won't hold other peoples babies, for me the risk (maybe dropping them) is NOT worth the rewards (will go home and snuggle mine).![]()
PS I want your African Grey Parrot REALLY bad, so hope you have good security, LOL!!!! My mom had a macaw, I hated that thing, it would even bite her. When I had to "house sit", I always have her a bunch of room, not worth losing a finger. However, yours sounds like such a joy, of course that is because he is with you. I bet with someone else, like me, he would have not lived up to his full potential. So I promise I would never really steal him, just dream about having a boy like that![]()
Wyandottes lay a medium egg, Black Stars lay a large egg. These two breeds lay 3-5 eggs a week.No one laugh but I made a chart of the breeds I am getting and their tendencies.... The higher the number the higher production or the higher the tendency to sit on eggs.

I had no clue that orpingtons were broody. Mine never went broody. If you have ever had these breeds, can you tell me if this chart seems about right? My RIR laid really well and she laid very large eggs, but I only had one with three buff orpingtons, so i don't have much to compare to.![]()
On another note, when I get my chicks, anyone want to help me figure out who is what?![]()

Maya loves my husband and me.. he would have been more sociable with others if we had more visitors. When my husband is deployed (like he is right now) Maya asks for him almost every day.. when he comes home the bird will be glued to him demanding every second of his attention he can get!. Maya also used to have a pet rat that he named.. he loved that rat.. so he has plenty of affection to give.. right now his newest love (other than the baby chicks in the house) is my American Eskimo puppy. He loves to call her over to him so he can pet her fluffy white fur. If I let him, he would be in the brooders with the baby chicks!
My husband's grandparents visited for two weeks a few years ago.. by the end of their stay Maya was chatting with them like he had known them forever.
we also have a green cheek conure.. talk about a moody bird!.. I'll take the greys any day of the week compared to the conures!
Quaker parrots on the other hand are very much a 'one person" bird.. I couldn't deal with having one of them just for that reason.
