glad they got it back

we had two stolen a few years ago (the little paint mini and my appendix QH)

luckily I found them ASAP..

the culprits were friends on the neighbor's kids.. as a "prank" they took them out of our pasture.. through two gates.. down the dirt lane.. out along the highway.. up the next road ..through another gate and left them in the neighbor's fenced yard

I wanted to kill them.....

I think I would like to gut them... just because i think it would be a little cleaner. I will leave the heart, lungs, and liver. But the rest I think will go. Don't want to feed my dog wastes form teh chicken.... You think I would have a problem feeding multiple dogs if I feed them separately or in their kennels. With raw feeding I don't want to leave their food down for them... don't want it to spoil. :sick
So how many lbs do you think I should feed a 85-95 lbs german shepherd a day? Do I have to start him on chicken, or can I do beef as well since that is what me and my husband get often. I actually have some chicken in the freezer right now too...
Is it ok to have whole fish? I would think the little bones would cause a problem, or is that not the case with raw fish?
Man, if I could take the extra hour drive to work, I would do it. Trust me. It would just eat me and DH alive with gasoline. He works in dallas, i work in grand prairie/cedar hill. I wouldn't have minded living with the lil chicks :gig

yea me either just need to be taught how to do all of it lol

dogs normally won't let it go to waste

.. mine would inhale every scrap and look for more.. then come over and burp in my face

since every dog is different start out slow with the raw.. offer a little as a snack for a day.. then two snacks the next day.. let their system get used to it

after a few days start replacing a portion of their regular food with the raw.. until you are either feeding only raw or a mix of raw and commercial that you intend to feed.. then watch your dog's weight.. active dogs will need more than older lazy dogs and pups will need more as they grow.. so there isn't really a 'set in stone" amount since like horses dogs all utilize their food differently.

Once you have been feeding it for a week or so check your dog's ribs.. if you can feel them but not see them then he's on track.. check every week (once or twice a week) for a good month or two and adjust food as needed.

you can feed beef.. but see how your dog does.. some dogs end up with some really wicked gas from too much beef and beef organs.. and IF your dog has allergies you may want to be careful with the beef.. some dogs are more sensitive to it than others. We used to have a black lab that could NOT have beef in her food.. the gas would chase you out of the room.. and if she had any beef heart or liver she would have to spend the next week outside because of the "doggy diarrhea"

as for the fish.. I'm not sure since I don't have access to a lot of raw fish
Weiss isn't allergic to anything honestly, at least that we know of. He can get some bad gas every once in a while tho

but if we can deal with mine then we can deal with the dogs... Anyway, I will talk to DH about doing it. I think I want to feed him the dog kibble in the morning so he can have it during the day to munch on, then let him have the meat in the evening, just like I have to prepare dinner for us, why not the dog? All I have to do is thaw it and cut it up a bit =) I will keep the diarrhea in mind. But if chicken works better, I shouldn't be running out of it with my rooster and hens... babies gonna go to the freezer I suppose.
I dont know if you remember me telling the story about my brother and the potato ricer..

the chicks were dyed easter chicks.. the only survivor was a little purple one
I never got the delight of hearing this story, do tell.

I imagine it would be just like cleaning a fish. Except the plucking part xD OH! That reminds me, do you scald the chickens with the raw method as well to pluck them? Or just pull them off without the boiling water? Just curious.

I kind of want some... lol What kids of ducks are those in the duck bin? If anyone knows.
Why D:

he says they die and i get too attached. And its not right at all

Good for him.
I don't think its right. I'm afraid that most of those chicks you see will probably "dye" a slow death. Not from people like us but people that just want a cute chick for Easter and don't have a clue how to take care of it.

So boys and girls... it's

VISUAL PICTURE STORY TIME!!!

disclaimer.. this is a true story.. please do not attempt to try it at home.. my brother was not a trained professional.. just an idiot who should have been duct taped to a ceiling fan (if they had ceiling fans or duct tape at the time in the house.. I don't think they had either actually.. but ...I digress)

So.. Once upon a time.. back in the 1950's my mother had bought a bunch of the coloured easter chicks..

several different ones.. red, pink, blue, green, yellow and purple.

she also owned an old fashioned (well it was the 1950's) potato ricer..

For those unfamiliar.. a potato ricer is a handy little gadget where you would lay a potato down inside it..

push down on a handle and it would shove the potato through a series of holes to make it similar to rice. (much to the dismay of the poor innocent potato)...

well.. my brother decided to "help"... so while my mother was busy tending to the many things she had to tend to..

my brother got the ricer..

and the chicks....

and well... you can imagine...

moral to this story...

never leave pretty fluffy chicks ... implements of destruction.. and my idiot brother alone in the same room together.. unattended .. and without benefit of a straight jacket or a rather large cage.....
