I was in our lunchroom at work and someone who was reading the Chron at the time said that they were having discussions about the Houston City Ordinances as they involve chickens. Googled but only found a tv news video story.

There is a movement in Houston to get the ordinance changed. Currently you can only have chickens if the chicken house stands 100' from the nearest habitation not including your own. Not the nearest property line, the nearest physical house. This is impossible for folks living in places with little lots but really fantastic if you are like I am, and on 1/2 acre lot. It mentions roosters not at all, and if you do have a place such as mine, you can keep up to 65 chickens. Which sounds a bit, um, shall I say, excessive? While those with closer neighbors can have NONE.

The city folk in the lunchroom were like 'yuck' why would I want my neighbors to have chickens roaming all over and crowing at all hour...the country folk were like 'yuck' I have neighbors with chickens and they crow at all hours and roam all over and there were actually a couple of people who had kept pet chickens. Think it will be an entertaining public hearing. I'm on 2 acres with a barn so have space and ability to keep them in an unobtrusive way.
