ROFLAMO.. you need one for dealing with me on a daily basis!Think I could get away with asking for a raise?BTW, I'm thinking my database is going to have to be something I keep well hidden. It is a clear line of site directly into the heart of my OCD...![]()
if you are near Seguin or new braunfels you can get production reds for $8.50 I have had great luck with them. The chickens I found were about $40, fully grown. My aunt, who's had her own chickens before, asked me if they had gold feathers to be that expensive.

I'm amazed my husband puts up with me![]()
wait.. you're OCD???
I never would have guessed...![]()
I think that's what the $12.50 Production Reds from our feed store are... culls from egg farms. I bought two last year that laid OK but eggs were medium size.from producers coop
I have trap nested. It's a great option if you are able to check them at least 3 times during the day to let them out. One rooster, many hens, wanted to know absolutely who laid what. Most breeders I know of don't do it, but I don't know why not. Unless they are not there during the day. Which is pretty likely guess.Re: test hatching - that requires separate units. Breeding pens. Which is what I'm trying to avoid having to build. If I am trapping the hen and only a single rooster is in with them....and I hatch that particular hen's eggs....then, I'd know the mother and father without question. I'm getting my test hatch without a breeding pen or need to remove the hen from the group for any period of time.
Oh well - I'm guessing this means that y'all are thinking breeding pens are really the only/best option.
No, she sits calmly watching them, but she keeps throwing me glances, like, "Mo-om-m-m." I can't let her run free in the yard though since it's unfenced and she will run off down the road. Since she's only 5 lbs, she is subject to being picked off by the neighborhood hawk. This morning at 6 we had a huge owl checking out the chicken pen. But for her action with the chickens, she's always been really good with them but there's been a fence between them. She used to peer over the top of the brooder box and I swear they think she's their mother. They always run toward her.Oh, when your dog is out in the golf cart has she shown any tendency to lunge at them or anything? If she just watches them calmly I think you might have a good start to letting them get to know each other.
