The starter i am using currently is 18% protein. Should i be using something higher or do i need to supplement?

From what I understand that's about what a starter should be. When they are about 18 weeks old, pullets need to be put on a laying formula or a flock raiser with a supplement of oyster shell. The starter i am using currently is 18% protein. I have talked to several breeders that use a higher protein feed like turkey starter which is 22% I think. I have tried it and seems like the chicks did grow faster. The starter i am using currently is 18% protein. Should i be using something higher or do i need to supplement?

Cute chickies!![]()
they do grow heavier faster with higher protein
We feed gamebird starter to our turkey poults.. when I have chick trainers in with them they also eat the same feed.. so when you compare them to hatch mates that have been on regular chick starter there is a marked difference in weight and overall size.
