I'm in Kaufman, east of DFW. I have seven dogs - most are rescues. I have been crazy to be a chicken momma for quite some time. Finally convinced my husband and he was very instrumental in finishing out the ooop. He is now very supportive. The chicks are on the way!!!

Vivi is in Odessa and has some very pretty birds....Odessa's not too far from Lubbock when you are in West Texas;-)

Well that is great to know! Who is Vivi? I might need to keep that in my pocket for in the future. I ended up finding someone locally who is going to give me a few. Since this is our first run with an incubator, we will see how it goes. I have a serious feeling I will be addicted though! I already spend way to much time reading about chickens. And your are so right! At 1.5-2 hrs away, Odessa is our closest neighbor!

Hmmm.  I don't have a cat but maybe I should get one or two for that.  The squirrels are really fat!!! and the feeder is always empty if they have access to it.  I have hundreds of oak trees and this year, I'm assuming from last year's drought, have produced zero acorns.  Last year the acorns were everywhere, couldn't walk on them without listening to the crunch, crunch.  For all I know this may be the oak trees' final gasp for life.    Some are definitely dying.

I know this is older but had to say I have more issues with the silly cats wanting to eat the chicken feed than anything else..... Stupid birds just scoot over and say have some! I mean seriously! And heaven help if I'm taking scraps out!

Chicks are doing great everybody is up and moving eating and drinking! I would post pics but I can't figure out how on my phone!!! Gonna have to re-up Internet at the house so I can share! By the way I'm out of trouble with the wife all she had to do was see all those little fuzzballs

Kilshrion I had no idea that when I got three so called Ameraucanas from them I'd actually get one that is darn near show quality.  The other two are mutts to the nth degree gig.gif
New here. how do you tell the difference? Can you post pictures as examples?
