Texas

I don't catch them, just dispatch them!

I worry about my daughter trying to pick one up. She's fixing to be 2 so she doesn't understand danger yet.

My mother works in her garden on property that has rattlers, copperheads and cotton mouths. I was sitting next to her one day when I saw her reach out and flick her finger....at which point it registered in my tiny brain what she'd just done.

A bloody cotton mouth had been laying in her garden. She flicked its tail to make it move out of her way. Just *flick*...and, it slithered over to the other side of the garden, sweet as you please. **shakes head** That woman is something else.

When my son was out there, visiting, she would always make sure she was with him when he was outside. They made a game of seeing the snakes and she stressed how important it was he not touch them, chase them or go near them. They were pretties that he could watch but not handle. He never tried; but, I've heard horror stories of children who have. **shudders**

eh.. I just called.. Cove Feed is sold out.. might have more after easter

Bummer - Ideal with have more on the 20th; but, I can't take another day off of work to make the drive. LOL

No worries. Cassie seems like a nice gal, and Elgin really isn't all that far. Good thing I like to drive!

I leave them alone out in the fields but when they come to the house they got to go!

you need a herd of goats!

When i worked at the dairy you could not find a single snake anywhere on the property.
Everyplace I have ever lived had snakes.. until we got goats. I was told by my grandmother that the snakes don't like the vibrations made by the goats hooves.. not sure how true it is.. but I have read it in other places as well. And from my experience either those snakes went into hiding.. or took off whenever we brought home a herd of goats.

I ave to wonder if a study has ever been done on it.. of if it's just a coincidence .. or maybe my grandmother knew something we didn't

awww... but I like snake grabbing!... seriously.. I do

I catch snakes barehanded usually.. most of them won't hang around long enough for me to go find a snake stick and come back

Now you see yinepu...when i read this i was not surprised at all! i definately know who to go to when i need some info on just about any creature in texas! Was actually suprised you didnt have any as pets...but wait you did! lol! you are great, i love your stories!

Well I don't have any goats but I do have some Barbado sheep! I brought them in this past winter to eliminate all the little places for snakes to hide in the brush, and they've done a great job at weed eating so far. The Barbados are like goats in that they are more brousers than grazers! So I'll let y'all know if it helps with snakes. Plus the sheep won't jump on my truck like a goat will

i also like catching tarantulas.. but haven't seen any on our property.. which suits my husband just fine.. he FINALLY got used to my pet ones.. but he wouldn't be too happy to find one walking across the front porch

I've been wanting barbados.. but I figured it's easier to milk the goats

.. plus the woman I was going to buy them from wanted to keep ALL the ewes... so I passed since a bunch of rams wouldn't do me much good except fill the freezer

barbado is REALLY good on the grill....

.. but I wanted some ewes too...

bugs, spiders, snakes...all those things dont bother me one bit. had a pet corn snake and a ball python for a while in college...yeah i was that guy! but the craziest thing is frogs/toads...i can not look at them with out getting creeped out. you can bank on it that if i see one on the the ground i will jump like a sissy-girl! then its just a frog, but like clockwork...i will jump out of my skin if i catch a frog hopping near me in the corner of my eye.

we go 'frog-giggin' around my pond in the summers and they dont bother me if im looking for them, but man o man, an unexpected sighting...bla! lol!

weirdo...i know

I love frogs and toads!.. even more when they surprise me cause then I know they have found a happy place here. Since the drought a few years back the frog and toad spotting has been more like a rare sighting of an endangered creature.. *sighs*
