Thank you, I do have an interest in that area. I don't have room to do anything to that standard yet. It will be a few years til we have our own house and not leasing anymore. Then if possible I would like to expand on my chickens and ducks, maybe try geese too.Hatcheries don't have what I assume you are considering "true" breeds of chickens in reference to your Reds. Hatchery stock may have the same coloring but there are many other little subtleties in chickens when you learn about the SOP (Standard of Perfection) that go into making a chicken that is true to the original breed as set forth by the American Poultry Association . It can be difficult to breed to the SOP which is why hatcheries do not do this - because they would not make money if they were being picky about which chickens they were actually breeding and hatching from. This is an even more important distinction when you are talking about "heritage" chickens.
