Texas

I have a son, a daughter, a son in law and soon to be grand-baby in Houston....So I'm regularly in Houston

; but, I live about halfway between Waco and Austin.

I went upstairs to check on Lucky. The light was on in the room, so I shut it off. We just changed out her heat source from the 250 watt red light to the 100 watt ceramic emitter. So, when I turned off the light, it went dark in the room. She came awake with a start and started chirping like crazy. I mean, she is going insane. Mike just went up there and turned the light on for her and she stopped chirping....my silly bird wants a night light.

I've never experienced that before. I mean, they've peeped at me when they have wound up without a light; but, nothing like this. Imagine a toddler throwing itself to the floor and wailing at the top of their lungs....that was Lucky. It was crazy. I heard her all the way outside. **shakes head** There was absolutely no consoling her until Mike went up and turned the light on...even then, Mike had to hold her for a while. She's gotten to where she falls asleep almost as soon as one of us is holding her. Snuggles right now and dozes off. I get a feeling I'm about to wind up with a house chicken if she keeps wrapping Mike around her tiny wing like she is.

Nope. If it had said mixed, I probably wouldn't have bid....ok, that's not true. They had the right size chicks to keep Lucky company, so I would have.

And, I have one (not the one in this photo) that looks like a Wyandotte coloured Modern Game. Down to the pointed instead of rounded flight feathers and legs longer than its body.

None of my hatchery girls look the same. But, I know what you are saying. I didn't get these guys for any reason other than I had a loan hatch and didn't want her to be solo for three weeks while waiting for my incubator to provide her company....

And, I still want some of your birds, Texasmja....I'm totally in lust with them

We had our building inspection this morning for The Broken Yolk. They are making sure everything is as it should be before we move on to the next stage in construction:

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! I am so ripping you off on this idea! Thank you for sharing pictures!

I will be shocked if it passes in Texas.. the cattlemen were some of the biggest opponents of it last time.. they don't like being told what to do with their cows!
Us horse people fought it HARD last time. We do NOT want NAIS, National Animal Identification System. I campaigned about it in my area to bring attention about it and got signed petitions against it.

Here is my weather outlook. Tonight should be okay but the next two nights I will have to bring them inside. Our wiring got nommed up by the squirrels so no way to run heat out to the coop. The big ones should be fine, just the little ones I worry about.

1115 pages?

to summarize
we (the texans in this thread) have birds... all kinds
build coops..
enable others to have birds
hatch out birds
and enable people to have MORE birds...

and uhm..... in Texas we're EVERYWHERE.. kinda like cockroaches!

there's a map around somewhere which tells where everyone is (except me. I'm not on it.....mainly cause I'm paranoid.. cause a pair of noids is more fun than just one!)
I also fear someone coming to raid my coop! LOL

mine are all staying out...my weather calls for mid 40's...they all should be fine

I thought about it, but my area is prone to NASTY winds. I live on top of a hill and as much as I close the coop up, the wind still whips around inside unless I put something across their door. I don't have a door that I can close on my coop just yet. That was what all the pallets were for, so I could build a really nice coop for my chickies.
