ok.. i was a bit off before (lol.. i said earlier that I had the info then sort of forgot it)

anyway.. a frizzle has 1 of the frizzle genes..
crossed with a smooth bird half the chicks would be frizzle.. half would be smooth (if you go by the 50/50 thing)

of those smooth chicks.. NONE have the frizzle gene

breeding a frizzle to a frizzle results in 2 copies of the frizzle gene which produces the brittle feathers

Day Seven Check In


Incubator One:

Muscovy - looking great. 4 out of the 14 are non-fertile...I mean, crystal clear egg. All the others are looking great on development.

Pheasants - looking amazing. 7 out of 7 are astounding in their level of development.

Incubator Two:


Marans a la Curtis - looking good from what I can see. Dark shells

Cream Legbars a la Curtis - only two looking good. Five are blood rings. One was non-fertile.

Isbars & Cream Legbars a la Zajoas1 - only two looking good. Three non-fertile. Two questionable.

Red Dorkings a la Red Bug Plantation - 14 looking great. Four were non-fertile, crystal clear.

Weigh In:


Incubator One:


Desired weight loss is ~2.8% for every 7 days. Average weight loss is 2.96%. A little over; but, not too bad.

Incubator Two:


Desired weight loss is ~2.34% per three days. I'm at 2.84%. A little over; but, again, not too bad.

Things are looking good for the most part.

Oh my word - that's too cute.

I have been threatening my cockerel that if he doesn't start doing his job, he's going to be his name (Dinner). Today, Mike and Jeff told me he did his job. There was a vulture circling over, apparently scoping things out. Dinner let out a call the boys had never heard before and off the girls went, he herded them underneath the porch and then stood at the open area under the stairs (where we have broken lattice, which is how they get under the porch in the first place) and eyeballed that vulture until he left. I'm guessing he took my threat seriously.

Mike posted a video - the run isn't completed, yet...still have the secondary wire to put up on the fencing, etc....He built the ramp, today - the video was taken, yesterday. But, it's coming along and is far enough along that they can be out in it with supervision. Rod Stewart (my buff coloured Polish) was the first one out the door.

I read this thread all the time despite the fact that it's 99% of the time about chickens and I don't have a single one. Just ducks and geese. But, y'all are so much fun to read!
