They just wanna be sure to give you a little something extra cuz they love you so much.

Thank you all for the lovely comments on my porch surprise. Found out one of my friends saw them for sale and bought the whole box. Left them on my porch for me to find. She didn't know they had to have heat. Nor could they eat lettuce without getting the poops.

Anyways, I have some splendid news! I found a place for my husband and I to settle down. The lady said that she needs someone to take care of her donkeys (or are they burros? I can't tell) and to clean the property up. She also needs the house fixed up. She told us that we could live there rent free until we finish all the repairs and get the property cleaned up. The really great thing is that it MUCH closer to my DH's job.

It's 3.7 acres and has buildings (and fenced areas) to keep pigs, goats, a couple of cows, chickens, guineas, and rabbits. I'm so excited. It will be a month or so before the place is livable enough for us to move in. We have a LOT of work to get done before it is comfortable. The electric needs work, the plumbing needs work, the fences need work. Pretty much the whole place needs work.

After we get finished with the house and the land, she said that then she would charge us 500 to 600 a month to rent it. She also said that since all her kids own their own homes or own several homes and rent out the extras, that we don't have to worry about getting booted off the property! I'm hoping that maybe a little further down the line, she might be willing to sell it to us.

Here in the next month I will be on the hunt for goats, rabbits, guineas, and maybe a cow. Not too sure. I will only do one at a time and am really hoping for goats first but I need to do research on it. I need a fairly hardy goat (this is Texas) that has good milk. Preferably one that is friendly since I am wanting milk. Does anyone have any suggestions on what breed I should get? I do plan on eating some goats. So maybe a dual purpose goat? I don't know, this will be my first time raising goats since I was little. Any advice is welcome. I seem to have forgotten how to care for them properly. I know you feed them twice a day (or at least my mom did) and that they love flowers (to eat, not to look at). That's about all I really remember.

Can't help ya with goats, but I've got cows, rabbits, and horses covered.

And a donkey is a burro. Same word different language.
Okay, what breeds do you suggest for a beginner for cows? I want milk so I can start making cheeses again.

As far as rabbits I am wanting meat rabbits, where can I get those? What is a fair price? I've heard California Rex are the best for meats.

Yinepu,

Would you like 3 hog skulls? I found them on the property. They have tusks (but not very big ones). I also found a cat skeleton.

I think th easiest milk Breed is a Jersey. Tend to be pretty docile. I have access to a half jersey, half mini Hereford heifer. Don't ask lol. She would b ready in about 2 months I think.

Meat rabbits. My house lol. That's what I raise. Californian and Rex are two different breeds. Both produce a carcass of roughly 3-4lbs when processed between 12-16 weeks. I raise Californians.

How much for the cow? How much for the rabbits? sorry so short, dh hijacked the computer

Holstein cow for milk. Nubian for goats. Nubians are very tame and produce a lot of milk. they don't have horns so they won't be getting caught in the fence. hope this helps.

I thoroughly dislike Holsteins. I worked on a dairy... I will never be around those again if I can help it. I did as little as possible to deal with those nasty beings. My job was to bring them their feed mix and to make sure the water tanks were filled.

DH went to bed. So, what are Nubians like? I am interested in the hornless types. I wouldn't want them caught in the fencing.

Look up Nubians on Google and it will show everything. there really docile friendly. they will become your babies/pets. i have a nanny that will come rest her head on my lap if im sitting on a bale of hay. just wanting her head scratched and she'll fall asleep. kids love her
