Can a hen go broody even if she hasn't been laying? This morning my black amercauna was nested down in the coop, and plucking thing from around her and scooting them under her. Lady I bought her from 3 weeks ago said she hadnt laid in a while, and she hasn't laid for me yet.

I've had a few that were like that.. a few bantams and also one very stubborn cochin were Broody Queens..

We have had some lay eggs, and others lay on them before. We are not 100% sure on it, but I think it's highly probable from what we've seen.

The Ladies are finally moved into Cluckton Abbey!!!! They're "locked in" for the next week to help acclimate them; meanwhile, the Husband is finishing the run.

SO GLAD they are out of my garage. :)

Oh, and yes, I do plan on more permanent feeders/waterers than the ones currently in place!

Looks great!!!! Especially your little "super" helper there!

I
Im praying for one just one! Thinking if I put one in the small pen with a dark cover she may go broody but im not sure....

I just rounded up all my dummy eggs and left them sitting in several of the nest boxes. I ended up with 3 CM broodies within a week and a half. So I pulled the dummy eggs and moved the girls to broody pens. Now I have a Big fat Coro Sussex, a Delaware and a black mutt who insist they want in on the act. Problem is the rest of the girls all start slacking off when somebody goes broody so be careful what you wish for.
