Don't stress over it. There are a zillion ways to raise chickens and there is more than one right way to do things.

I and others I know, use ACV in the water all the time, even when it is hotter than hell because it keeps the waterers cleaner, and we haven't had problems with chicken health, or with thin shelled eggs. Some others may have had problems, but you know, there are so many variables that go into each situation, that you usually will not know if that one thing was the cause of a problem or not.

I will say that my chickens are fed a free-choice high protein diet marketed as a "game chick starter" because that is what I have researched and felt is best for our flock. We also have free-choice oyster shell available as a calcium supplement. I've dropped eggs from chest height onto the ground and not had them break and have difficulty candling them because they are so thick. So perhaps how we feed our chickens overcomes the issue that is currently being discussed about thin shelled eggs.

Don't try to make this too hard. If you like the benefits of ACV, try it and see what happens. If you wind up with something odd and you think the ACV might be the problem, stop the ACV and see if the problem resolves for you. Chickens are tougher than you think and you can experiment with most things to get your husbandry skills down pat without too much risk of killing them. And there is more than one right way to raise chickens.
Good advice, thank you

ROFL!!!  Thought you got some Bantys when Sarge got chickens the last time?  He does look like a nice Roo though.

yeah I got her and her sisters 25 asstd bantys from ideal along with 10 other chicks of LF... only a WLR cornish and 2 OEGB survived...
at first we thought we had a pair but now I think we have 2 roos... they may have to go....

Happy early Fathers Day to all the daddys out there. I am going to be on the road ALL weekend long and doubt if ill get another chance to get it out there!

I give up. Absolutely give up. Apparently I am not meant to raise chickens. A coon wiped out all of my babies over night. Just moved them outside. 3 hand picked EEs and 3 SLW that I beat the pavement to find. All of them. All that's left is 1 foot and a small bunch of feathers.

Ahh, i feel your pain. My first 9 got wiped out after putting them outside. I am Sorry to hear about that! how did the coon get to them?

I am so sorry to hear the news. Please don't give up on raising chickens. I, too, lost 7 in the first two weeks of having chickens. I felt like a monster! Try to find out where that coon is getting in. In the meantime, set up a trap to get the varmint. Just remember how much you enjoyed watching them and the pleasure it gave you.

Lisa :)

He didn't get in. He pulled them through the wire. I had them in a wire dog kennel. I triple check each section that the chicks couldn't fit through. They were plenty big enough.

There was no dirt disturbed around the kennel. No sigh of any struggle. Nothing.

All I want is to have colored eggs.
