Yucky little ones are no fun. I'm glad they are feeling better.

. He is cutting his 1 yr molars.

ouch! had to miss a day of work last week cause mine was cutting his K9's...fever, Big D, fuuuuusssssssssssssyyyyyyyy!!!! how old is yours? mine just hit 14 mos

He just turned a year. Thankfully, with all his teeth, he's really only had low grade fevers, and gross D. He's kinda fussy, but compared to the horror stories I've heard about other kids, his fussy is a cake walk. But he also cut 8 teeth in a little over a month :/

Thoughts?

About a week ago was just eye lids swollen. This chick belongs to my friend. They sent me this just now.

First.. is the eye still there? (I can't tell from the pic)
Are there any other lesions on the bird?
Is the bird acting fine otherwise (no fever, eating and so on)?

It could have been caused from other birds pecking the eye (had a roo get the crap beat out of him and had an eye pecked out by some mad hens)
Or it could have been caused from dirt or irritant. or worse case scenario.. disease

If he is acting fine otherwise and no other birds have been infected then it's more likely an irritant or injury
so if he's otherwise feeling fine:
For treatment I am assuming you don't have any terramycin ointment on hand (would be my first choice without taking a bird to the vet). So I would clean with eyewash (same stuff you would use on yourself) and add a drop of mineral oil to the eye if terramycin ointment or other ophthalmic ointment isn't handy.. then maybe buy a tube to keep on hand for future emergencies. treating 2 to 4 a day until healed

If he is acting sickly it's a good chance they are dealing with infectious coryza. If that's the case it will spread through the entire flock
treatment would consist of dosing with tylosin or erthromycin

I've been busy.. sorry

I got a purple egg today. It was in the Marans pen. Anyone ever get one like it?

I used to have a few EEs that gave me everything from deep rose colored eggs to purple.. I liked the lavender ones the best since they had the nicest color

So this rain def took a toll on my run! The tarp cover collected so much water it broke one of the fence posts. Everyone is accounted for and im sure they had some good free range time today.

I thought i solved this problem but looks like i still got some work to do. As soon as i can pawn this baby off on his mama its off to get this run secured before tonite...man i love mondays...

Hubs just said its going to rain all night. *sigh*

Sorry about that. At least you didn't lose any chickens. We didn't get enough rain to register in the gauge.

a good solid 3" of rain here.. and they are calling for more

temps could be a bit warmer for my tastes... but I'm happy to see the rain!
(yeah.. I'm the oddball who doesn't mind the high temps!)

Thanks Yin :)

Benefits to being in the vet field, lots of useful meds on hand. Lol. I don't know about the eye, I haven't seen the chick. But I know it's otherwise fine. Having her treat like conjunctivitis in rabbits.

Whoever is hogging all the rain, quit that! People in the Houston area and down toward Corpus could sure use some. So far, I have only received 1/4" rain.

Lisa :)
