Here's the other pullet, and behind her is the much darker roo. He's the only one that dark. Is he black or just darker blue?

All are showing a little copper on their heads now, last week only one had any and he had a ton.

Jesirose, Below are two blue Ameraucanas. The pullet on the left has a few white primary wing feathers (you can see if you look closely). I've been told that the white feathers might (will?) molt out, but I'll never know. Sadly when I was away on holidays, my son was sloppy closing pens and my Dachshunds killed her. Some blues can be quite dark, almost black.

Cool, so I guess they are all blue! Yeah all of mine except the one roo have lots of white feathers, the first few feathers.

Edit: sorry about your chicken :(

The blue cockerel on the right is the same bird as in my previous pictures of the two blue chicks. He's pretty dark. The bird on the left is a splash and the center bird is a lavender. All are Ameraucanas. It was just starting to get dark, so everything is a bit darker than it should be.

Jesirose, Here's that same blue cockerel. The blues are supposed to have that delicate lacing around their feathers. This is a dark bird, so it doesn't show very well. Plus I don't really like the brown undertones to his color. I'll see how he matures.

Those are all blues...the one in the background is just a dark blue. I have the same thing in Orpingtons and blue can look almost black sometimes.

Here is a pic of varied blue colors: The rooster is a splash, then there is a dark blue hen and a light blue hen:

I see in the picture your blues have that same brown cast to their feathers (or maybe it is just the lighting) that I'm criticizing my blue cockerel for having. I would imagine those brown undertones are not desired (for exhibition). How faulty is my bird's color? Below are a couple of pictures of my blue cockerel. I can't get an opinion on the BYC Ameraucana thread. The breeder is not giving an opinion other than to wait. Thanks.

I spent all yesterday shoveling out the coops and runs, disposing of everything and then dipping all 49 birds including the spastic guineas to treat for a persistent lice/mite/flea attack that came from some new chickens I adopted. I have tried all the natural methods and its only gotten worse, so finally had to bite the bullet and use pyrethrin :( If you've never spent 6 solid hours chasing birds through a 4 foot high covered run - its a blast - NOT, LOL! Today I am finally building a pallet coop that has been promised to my adult birds since moving them temporarily into an XL crate. I am so hot and sore and tired....ugh!
