Texas

Been a hot summer, me staying in the house so I finally am able to go outside and look at my new breeder's.
I have 4 new breeds of turkey's that are coming along very nicely. Some Tolbunt Polish that I am over the moon about, they should be laying soon. Hopefully everyone will be in their proper places by the end of the month and I can start hatching again.

I have 8 or 10 raised beds and 24x36 in-ground garden.  I plant my corn and melons in the ground.

Well, I will continue to garden, I'm just disappointed.  Maybe I used too much chicken manure....great leaves, no fruit.

This year I tried in-ground gardening for the first time since we moved to this land. I tilled it up mixing in some mulch and compost. Then laid out drip irrigation line and just planted everything and anything of the seed packets that caught our eyes.

One big surprise for me was that the tomato plants from seed in the ground did fantastic and the 4" started tomato plants we put into the raised beds have been worthless this year. Now that could be due to the potted tomato starts were different varieties than the seeds we planted but I know for sure next year my primary tomato effort is going to be in-ground.

That's just what worked for me near Abilene where we are hot, windy and arid.

Just killed our second baby rattlesnake of the season. I opened the garage door and it must have been laying on the concrete lip of the garage floor. If I hadn't seen the movement it would have got me for sure!! All I had was a big wooden post in the garage but it worked! I was letting my cat into the garage for the night and there it was. Well, I'm just glad my cat got in safely. Danm snakes! grrrrr!!

Apparently, I'm the local Feral Kitty Shelter. My sister brought me another one. The one on the left is the one I raised from Day 1. The one on the right is older but really malnourished and not very socialized. No scratching so far, though.
