I still maintain that who we become is based on our choices, not on our birth condition. There are untold millions of examples of two people born in the exact same condition or family and one becomes a loser and the other a winner.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson comes to mind :bow

GOOD MORNING TEXANS!

As of 6 AM we had received 4" of rain!!!

Jockeyeba, my dh and I just saw 'Gifted Hands'.  I am now reading Dr. Ben Carson's book.  Excellent read.  I think they should have done a movie on the mom!

It is chilly this morning. I was worried about the little ones, but went outside to check on them and all is well. The heat lamp in the building is keeping them plenty warm. They were running around acting like fools. A few scared me, when they lay down they look dead. Ugh. But when they saw me they all started cheeping and carrying on. Guess they already figured out who Momma is

Thank you!

Thanks, I'm trying to get them sold. I just really want them to look clean and professional.

Thank you!

Thank you so much! It took a couple hours (it certainly didn't help that my brushes are older and frayed, so I had to make do. I also used a few sewing needles to do the finer details, but that's pretty hard, considering the length of them.

I was using an example image to see if I could do it, and the cross supports were certainly the most difficult part. I wanted it to look somewhat realistic, but I was torn between doing it simplistically/unrealistic or complicated/realistic. You're right, though, I think a more simplistic design would be better for such a small canvas. Plus, my hand gets shaky after I paint such small details. I end up just doing base coats until it relaxes again.

I'm currently looking for those little ornament beads. They will go on the top and bottom of the eggs and allow me to tie them up onto an egg tree I plan on making. I want the display to look just as nice as the eggs themselves.

I've done some more detailed ones before, but they were more based on my interests than anything.

For example, these. The two on the far right and left are the ones I did with ideas. The one on the right was based on Little Red Riding Hood and the other was just me practicing mixing colors on the egg. These were really fun and I've gifted one of them and the other is kinda my baby, since it was the first egg I painted.

If you could find that page, I'd really appreciate it! I've seen other painted eggs and they are so gloriously painted and they always have such clean, exact lines. Seeing other techniques would be amazing.

Aww, thank you! You guys all are making me blush, heehee!

Painting eggs was one of those things that evaded me for a long time. I tried when I was younger (Easter decorating, drawing, etc.), but my hands were unsteady. It wasn't until after I learned how to play violin and had to be perfectly balanced that my hands steadied. Not to say you have to learn how to play a delicate instrument to be able to paint or carve eggs, but it certainly helps to practice using your hands for detailed things. Like puzzles! I love puzzles. I never finish them, haha!

Beautiful!

Laura - The sun/feathers egg is pretty! It has a Southwest feel to it.

Apparently, the post I have been looking for is no longer on BYC...it may have been taken off when they made the great migration to this new fangled site. BUT, Whitnni found it on the 'net!!!

Here is the link: http://backyardchickens.yuku.com/topic/13645#.Uj50TobVBEA

It doesn't have as many photos as the original...I have the original in my old computer, but I believe it died when I tried to fire it up.... :(

I just thought you or anyone may find it interesting. :)

You are right, it has been a beautiful Texas day! This isn't chicken related, but I want to share...I am an animal lover. I always have been. I would have every stray animal that I could, but with the "help" of my husband, I don't. There came a chance to foster a pregnant dog that was going to be put down, and I just couldn't let that happen. The dog has been sponsored by a rescue and I am her new mommy until she has the babies and they get old enough to adopt. I understand that things happen and sometimes pets suffer...but who would/could do this? I used to hate it when my step-dad would get mad at my puppy and take it off somewhere.

Today, I started an adventure that I hope all ends well. Sassy (the dog) is a very well behaved adult standard dachshund. She is about to pop any second now. We bought her a crate for her to have her babies in for protection and to keep my nosey dogs away from them. She came in the house, and has just fit in with my family and dogs. We thought we were going to have a little trouble getting her in the crate, I said "Sassy, in the crate", and she went right in. I am not sure if she was given up because she was pregnant (her terrier friend was also surrendered) but she is a great dog. I am so afraid I will get attached to her and not be able to let her go...but I know that at least I am helping her by not letting her be put down because no one wanted her.

Thanks for letting me ramble on here...I will post a pic next. They are all on my phone.
Kudos on the rescue. I used to work at a vet clinic that euthanized local shelter dogs. I ended up taking every dog I could and my friends all ended up with some. It's a hard line of work, one I found I was not cut out for. Still have nightmares about frozen animals falling out of a freezer. Yep, those little puppies are going to be a problem. You will want to keep them all! If I come across your step dad, I will give him a good what for....... geez sorry honey.

I've been blowing out eggs lately for fall decorations, but Dad realized, "Wow Laura, you sure do sink a lot of time painting these delicate eggs for no reason other than to place them in that basket where they can't be seen. Why don't you sell them at the local market? My friend has a stand he can sell them at!"

My Dad isn't that wordy, nor that enthusiastic, but I think he's trying to make me use my time more wisely. So all my spare time is now spent painting eggs free hand. This is the first time I've painted something with such small details, so it's a bit rough. Any opinions would be great!

Just be gentle, okay? H-ha....

I love seeing creativity! Thanks for sharing

Promised my DD shrimp for dinner, so what did I do? Yep, shrimp and scallops on the barbie! Along with packs for zucchini/squash and Anaheim peppers. LOVE this cooler weather, did not mind standing over the fire
