Thank you so much! It took a couple hours (it certainly didn't help that my brushes are older and frayed, so I had to make do. I also used a few sewing needles to do the finer details, but that's pretty hard, considering the length of them.
I was using an example image to see if I could do it, and the cross supports were certainly the most difficult part. I wanted it to look somewhat realistic, but I was torn between doing it simplistically/unrealistic or complicated/realistic. You're right, though, I think a more simplistic design would be better for such a small canvas. Plus, my hand gets shaky after I paint such small details. I end up just doing base coats until it relaxes again.
I'm currently looking for those little ornament beads. They will go on the top and bottom of the eggs and allow me to tie them up onto an egg tree I plan on making. I want the display to look just as nice as the eggs themselves.
I've done some more detailed ones before, but they were more based on my interests than anything.
For example, these. The two on the far right and left are the ones I did with ideas. The one on the right was based on Little Red Riding Hood and the other was just me practicing mixing colors on the egg. These were really fun and I've gifted one of them and the other is kinda my baby, since it was the first egg I painted.
If you could find that page, I'd really appreciate it! I've seen other painted eggs and they are so gloriously painted and they always have such clean, exact lines. Seeing other techniques would be amazing.

Painting eggs was one of those things that evaded me for a long time. I tried when I was younger (Easter decorating, drawing, etc.), but my hands were unsteady. It wasn't until after I learned how to play violin and had to be perfectly balanced that my hands steadied. Not to say you have to learn how to play a delicate instrument to be able to paint or carve eggs, but it certainly helps to practice using your hands for detailed things. Like puzzles! I love puzzles. I never finish them, haha!
Kudos on the rescue. I used to work at a vet clinic that euthanized local shelter dogs. I ended up taking every dog I could and my friends all ended up with some. It's a hard line of work, one I found I was not cut out for. Still have nightmares about frozen animals falling out of a freezer. Yep, those little puppies are going to be a problem. You will want to keep them all! If I come across your step dad, I will give him a good what for....... geez sorry honey.
I've been blowing out eggs lately for fall decorations, but Dad realized, "Wow Laura, you sure do sink a lot of time painting these delicate eggs for no reason other than to place them in that basket where they can't be seen. Why don't you sell them at the local market? My friend has a stand he can sell them at!"
My Dad isn't that wordy, nor that enthusiastic, but I think he's trying to make me use my time more wisely. So all my spare time is now spent painting eggs free hand. This is the first time I've painted something with such small details, so it's a bit rough. Any opinions would be great!
