GOOD MORNING TEXANS!!

Where is everyone today?  I am on late and no posts!

Jungleexplorer, remind me not to walk with you.  You seem to attract some interesting critters!!  :D

Lisa :)

I just got in from arguing with one of the show steers on rather or not he needed a halter. At 800lbs it's not much of an argument considering he took out a fence. If he wasn't castrated already, I would have done so.

Ok the fence lost, how did you do?

Since I am a husband and a non-tradiionalist, mums the word for me on last nights conversation about homecoming and husbands.

How about some humor instead?

Did you hear about the new reality tv show that A&E is doing about the White House? It's going to be called, Lame Duck Dynasty!

Is it normal for a hen to be laying regularly and then all of a sudden stop laying? What is wrong?

It could be several things. My first guess is the lack of light. Chickens are very light sensitive and as the days get shorter they will naturally slow their laying or stop altogether. Putting a light in their coop will keep them laying all winter.

Well ours slowed down during the heat of Aug and right now they are molting so very few eggs right now. Then there is the decreasing light that Jungleexplorer mentioned. Mites can also cause a drop in egg production. Really, stress of any kind can cause an egg drop. Check for mites, check for increase in feather loss that might indicate molting, any probs with bugs in the coop and start ruling things out as a cause.

I'm glad someone explained the mum thing. We moved from St. Louis, MO two years ago, and that one threw me for a loop for sure!

I fear my future children will get no help from me where this tradition is concerned; too goofy!

Do you think that maybe since I haven't been letting them out of the coop/run and letting them in the back yard could do it? I am fostering a dog that is very interested in the chickens and I am afraid to leave them out with her around. My dogs don't bother her but the foster dog tries to get in the coop when I go in there to check water and feed.
