Texas

The vet gave him a pain shot and said to watch him in a couple of hours after it wears off to see how he is. I've been out walking him. He peed and had some gas which the gas is a good sign. He is drinking and I think he went and tasted the hay....he has all the grass he could want but at least he tasted something on his own. That's a good sign too.

ugh. what a day.

My Welsummer roo attacked me again this morning. I picked him up by the neck, gave him a swing over my head and threw him back to the ground. For a moment there I wanted to keep on swinging and maybe should have. Earlier this year he attacked my leg and put a bruise nearly all the way around my calf. The damage he did the last time he attacked me. The rogue roo. After I swung/threw him he kept FAR away from me. It must have scared him. I feel a little bad about it...on the other hand I cannot worry about being attacked every time I'm around the chickens.
Hi :hugs :love I had a beauteous Welsummer Roo named D-eggo and he was such a good roo until he was about a year and a half old. Then he decided he didn't like my poor sweet hubby :th . I had promised my hubby I would never let him be attacked by a chicken since he was already the target of our very blood thirsty geese :gig . I was going to get rid of him immediately but being the sweet hubby he is he suggested I find out in this forum if there wasn't something we could do to gentle him back up. Well one lady told me that every time I went into the run I should pick him up and put him in a small holding cage so my hubby could be the dominate one. After about 4 days he realized I was going to put him in THE SMALL CAGE - and he started to violently attack me :th . We now have Little D-eggo who is truly sweet and gentle and I learned that I would never keep an aggressive roo. If they show any aggression to either the hens or us they end up in the crock pot  . We had a couple of Ameraucana roos that were sweet to us but had my beauteous ladies screaming and throwing themselves against the run walls trying to get away ! Aggression can and is bred into chickens and so I cull any that show even a little :hugs :love . Your wounds look terrible:hugs :hugs :love . My legs looked like I had rolled around in razor wire after just a few days of Big D-eego's assaults :barnie :hugs :love My Welsummer's are going into a breeding pen soon so if you need a new Welsummer Roo I would be glad to give you one when he is available. They mostly come from a lady here that goes by Ruth but her name is Monica and her birds are top quality. The ladies give the most beauteous orangey-brown eggs with the prettiest chocolate sprinkles :hugs :love
Melissa I love my Welsummer hen that we got from you as a chick :hugs Welsummer eggs are so cool, I do want to get more of them in the future :)

Tammy I think you have to send him to freezer camp. it will cure him I have found most are not willing to stop once they start. he is such a pretty boy kellogs corn flakes man...lol.. good luck and be careful as he will start to attack u from behind.
I have the same problem but with a tiny OEGB roo, if he was a big roo he would be in the freezer a long time ago

My 36 year old horse has colic.  The vet just left a little while ago.  :(   He was rolling on the grass and in terrible pain this morning when I went out to feed the chickens.  I spent almost two hours massaging his belly and keeping him from rolling.  Poor thing looks like he must have been in pain for a few hours because he rubbed his temples raw.  Good thing we had him in around the house last night...if he had been in the pasture I would not have found him.

I need to go walk him some more.

Do you have any Banamine to give him a few hours after the vet left if he still seems colicy?

No. I think that is the shot the vet gave him in the neck. I asked about pain med and he said that he had some paste at home that I could get for future use, but he did not recommend anything for the rest of today.

He is just standing in the shade by the water...he looks sleepy, probably exhausted. He and I did share a PBJ sandwich, so he will eat treats, but he is not grazing.

Poor baby rolled around so much during the night his temples and hip bone areas are raw.

The vet said he did look really really good for his age...did I already say that?

Edit: It's now 2:15 and he is starting to graze...still just in the area where he has been standing but the vet said that is a good sign he will be okay. I'm exhausted.

I am so glad he seems to be feeling a bit better and in less pain.
