Texas

Last December we had a "white hawk", not a pure white hawk (except for his belly) but his wing/tail feathers had muted coloring. He was so large, too! I haven't seen him this year.

I have a short video but it has to be youtube or vimeo and I'm too lazy to do it right now.

I see Kestrels year round here. We also have red shoulder hawks, red tail hawks, Cooper's hawks. I'm not sure what other species are here, if any. Turkey Vultures are all over the place too. I don't worry about them since they prefer dead stuff.

We have crows in the park so that could be why the falcons haven't been seen lately.

I do plan on covering the large run with hardware cloth netting or chicken wire. I will be out with the chickens in the yard when they are out of the big run. I am trying to take every precaution I can for the chickens safety.

My dog is 6 and if she tries to go after the chickens I will train her not to and I can also leave her in the house. She is a house dog. I am not sure when I will be getting a pupping. I just want to get one in the next year or two before Sasha gets too old to handle a puppies energy level. Gillian temperament tests all her dogs before she homes them. I will know what I am getting before I have her home. I can train any level of dog, but do find the higher drive dogs easier to train. That is what I have the most experience with too. All my dogs are very well trained. Sasha's only weakness in bad behavior is when it comes to squirrels and stray cats. It seems she can only watch them and listen to me telling her no, leave it, etc before she just has to chase it. :) She does try though. Gillian does have a breeding planned for January. :)

If anyone uses Nature Wise (Nutrena brand) food, then be aware they recalled a bunch due to an improper balance of corn. At least that is what my local Tractor Supply lady said.

My chickens LOVE this stuff but I haven't been able to get if for a few weeks now.

My concern is this...did my chickens love it because it had a lot of corn????

JaJeanPierre had said a couple of weeks ago that corn was bad for feathering. This article talks about adding any grain (including corn) to feed dilutes the amount of an amino acid needed for feather development.

Good morning! Went to bed after 11pm and have been awake since 4am. :/

Chilly now, but will be lovely later. Hoping to paint my door today!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Good morning, everyone!

I watched my first baby hatch around midnight. It was something I'll never forget. It was a very special and awe-inspiring thing. Feeling all warm and fuzzy this morning... Much like my little Silkie baby, actually :)

I'd throw a picture up here, but I'm unable to. For some reason, BYC doesn't let me post pictures anymore!
