Texas

The temp may be warmer, but the dampness is a pain! I live out in the country in the Tyler/Longview area. I live in Rusk Co, 20 miles from anywhere! lol

I'm hoping to do some more work on my coop this weekend. We put wire up on one of the walls, and bought some more supplies to finish the solid walls. Need to work on the nests and start on my brooder so that I can get my chicks soon.

On a good note, my yard egg supplier starting getting eggs again. So glad I don't have to eat store eggs!! :sick

Isn't rusk between Tyler and Athens? My parents live in Athens. I just remember seeing that town. Or is that where the train goes from Palestine?

I GOT MY FIRST EGGS TODAY!!!!!!!! I've been looking everyday but I didn't this morning cause it was raining but my daughter went to look tonight and voila!!! Eggs!! Too excited

How exciting!!! Congrats!

Collin County Feed has chick feed that is good for all stages of growth, right up to the point you switch to adult feed.  Is that what you got?
Finding the sun around here the past few days has been hard.  It was so foggy today I swear I was in Superior WI.  You couldn't even see the tops of the water towers.

I hope so! Lol
The guy was soo friendly. He noticed my husband and i staring at all the huge bags of feed and asked if he could help. I told him i was looking for chick starter, nonmedicated and he pointed me towards a huge sack of "poultry feed". I think he saw my hesitation at the size of the bag cause he saud he could measure me out some :) so i got a 5lb brown paper sack lol

If you can't find real sunlight, melatonin will work for jet lag.

Spent a lot of time in that neck of the woods. Love Henderson. Took a west Texas boy a little time to get used to those tall green things out there but made a lot of good friends and customers out there as well!

I'm a bad chicken keeper.

Since the cold dark weather, quite a few of the Silkies have been thinking that broody might be the way to go--it's nice and warm in those nest boxes. The rest of the girls are none too happy about it. I have more than enough nest boxes for the hens, but not enough if four won't leave the three boxes for the whole day and night. The Polish are lining up, at the doors to the boxes, finally giving up and just laying on the coop floor in front of the nest boxes. Every time I check for eggs, I gently pick up the same three or four Silkies and deposit them in front of the water or the food dish. Sometimes it distracts them and they have a drink or a bite to eat and go off to forage. Other times, they immediately stomp back up to the nest box.

Well, today I kicked one little Silkie out of the nest box maybe six or seven times. The last time as I was putting her on the ground, there was a great 'thunk' as an egg fell two feet to the ground at my feet. It didn't even break. The little Silkie didn't even complain, just waddled over for a drink and went off to forage.

Yeah!!

When did it hail??
We get hail all the time in this area. Not all of it will damage a roof though. I have no idea when the damage occurred, I just hope they will agree that is has been since I bought the house in Aug 2012. ;)

How exciting!!! Congrats!

I love service like that. There is still a bit of a small town feel to this rapidly growing city that isn't so small anymore. :) When I first moved here in 1989 the city was about 35K people. There was hardly anything here and people talked about crop rotation at Taco Bell. So much has changed...
