Texas

The have Monday and Tuesday slotted for me. My house is small so it shouldn't take too long. The detached garage needs some deck repair so that will slow the process down. I don't think anyone has properly cared for my poor old garage ever! It has the original 1965 shingles on it plus two more layers.

I think I will go for a bike ride and shopping. I got a 30% off coupon for Calloway's today. :)

The big floofy Brahma

Brahma again

The lil Araucana girl, she lacks cheek tufts and I was told she lays green eggs, so I wonder if she possibly might be a cross. But who cares, she is cute with her rumplessness~

The Jersey giant girl. I am thinking about calling her Yumyum cause I said that while I was feeding them a strawberry and she licked her beak haha.

The three of themn together. they are so docile and run and try to hide from Trouble. I feel bad for them. Hopefully things will get sorted out soon.

Trouble was locked in
"chicken jail". She was locked inside the coop so the others could get some nibbles and drink.

They are absolutely beautiful

Here is an article on deep litter. And another one.

My roof goes on tomorrow. I'm excited about it. It will be kind of like getting a new house. ;)
Thank you for the DLM links. I try to read all I can about so that I will be ready when my chicks get here and out in the coop.

Good luck with your roof raising!

Anyone going to the poultry shows this spring?

I think there are three in March--South Central Texas Classic, March 1, in La Grange; Fancy Feathers Open Show, March 15, Dripping Springs; South Texas State Fair, March 29, and I haven't a clue where that show is, but it must be driving distance for me.

I decided that I am going to exhibit some birds. I'm hoping to meet some of you so I won't feel quite so lost.

Anyone going?
I would love to go to some shows, but those seem a little far for me. :(

I introduced 3 new to one old at thanksgiving and it was only a couple of days before the world was all right again. I have a very small coop with the sleeping compartment up the ramp and there is room for 4 comfortably. The first night all the new ones slept on the bottom. The next night 2 were allowed up and one new one slept on the ground. The next night they were all up but Lucy, the old one slept in one section all by herself. The next night they were all squashed together in the small space. Harmony ever since!

The south Texas state fair is in Beaumont. Thank goodness they are all a few hours away from me, although I'd love to meet you and see your birds, I don't need to see beautiful chickens. I have a hard enough time saying no just from all that you guys talk about on here!!!:he

I'm going to the Fort Worth stock show. Saturday is their poultry show. I've got to get both my girls back on full mend before I add any others, or I'd be in big trouble wanting to bring some home.

My hen juliette still doesn't want to walk. Her tail is also droopy, but I found no wounds nor did I feel anything like a bound egg. I fear she may have a bruise to her spine. She will stand, but limps when walking. This is all after the dog attack, so I don't think it's mareks. Murphy is fully recovered and doing well. Both are eating and drinking well.

Should I give Juliette some cat food? Or scrambled egg? They've been given cottage cheese and meal worms as extras along with greens, a few shelled sunflower seeds and their laying pellets.

Should I try some aspirin or pain reliever for her?

I have never been to a poultry show. I think I will try going to the one in Dripping Springs. Thanks for posting the info.
