You have sun?!! Must share with the rest of us. It would make the cold a little more bearable!

When I first saw your picture, I thought you were 'oven canning'. You are an amazing lady. Always baking, cooking, etc. Wish we lived closer. I would learn a lot from you.

:) Thank you :)

It's still 29* at 12:20

1:03 and 30*. No way we are hitting 42* today.

It is 40 degrees at 12:27 PM. The Winter Storm warning has expired for my area. The ice has melted. They are cautioning people to drive carefully tonight since the temps will be dropping again.

I bought the vegan starter from Cultures for Health and followed the directions. I also downloaded their free e-book and read on their site about making yogurt. The one thing I did that was not in the box directions was to add sugar to the milk for the starter to eat. Almond milk has a low sugar amount so you need to add some.

Will they live?

The big palms should be ok. The sago may or may not. It depends on how much cold it got. I would cover it if it is getting cold again.

The big palms are Mediterranean Palms. I don't think it got as cold as it has. The sago palms are by the house. We're going to get a lot colder weather in a few days.

Thanks for the advice.

We had a small Sago palm that didn't make it a few winters back :(

Hung I wasn't planning on going anywhere I just wanted to get my heavier/warmer gloves that I left in the truck :( We were going to Melissa's yesterday to pu a few pullets but she came down with a stomach flu so it will be a few more days before we can go. :th

We didn't have all that much snice (snow+ice) on the ground here but all surfaces were covered in ice. The chickens were greeted with a big pan of cracked corn which you can't even see in the photo because they are SWARMING it like buzzards!

I did manage to poke a hole in the water tub breaking up the ice this morning. It's just a cheap tub and I was going to have to switch back to the regular waterer with the chicks coming anyway.

The broodies seem okay, I just hope their eggs didn't get chilled.

~~Don't be surprised if the leaves on this palm turn straw brown and die. As long as the crown is okay then it will sprout new leaves but it is a long process for palms.

The icicles are longer than when I took pictures of them at 12:30 p.m. Should I wrap them when it goes down to the teens next Monday or Tuesday? I think I'm okay for their temperature so far, but not crazy to see ice in the crowns of the Sago palms. I still have ice on the ground. Some is gone, some is slush, some is ice.

Send me the recipe, too, please.

When I was in Saudi Arabia, I had a maid that made yogurt for the kids all the time. She used powdered milk. I just don't remember whether she made it up to be regular milk strength or it was concentrated.
