I definately "needed" some in my lil ragtag flock lol
Same with my Easter Eggers.Except those should be less broody. My Barred Rock is sweet too but theyre all still young. Hopefully they all stay friendly!

Yes, I too have heard they are broody and also easily bullied. I th k I've narrowed it down to either Easter eggers, australorps, or Wyandotte. I'm going to do ozone research this month and get them in March

I'm looking for a dual purpose breed, buff orpington or rhode island reds…really anything around here though. I've been searching everywhere for a few weeks and can't find anything here that has a minimum purchase of less than 100 chicks!

If you don't wan't to mail order, TSC will have Buffs in Feb (if you just want layers and meat birds). I think their minimum is 6. Some of their employees aren't familiar with the different breeds though, so make sure you're familiar with what Buff chicks look like. They usually carry Buffs, Leghorns, Production Reds, and Barred Rocks.

Other local small farm or feed stores carry chicks too. If they don't, they can probably direct you to one that does.

Ideal Hatchery is in Texas. You usually get your chicks overnight. Theres no minimum order of chicks, BUT you do have to spend $25 dollars.
I got mine from Meyers but they got caught in the middle of a midwest winter storm, which delayed post and i lost a lot. The chicks i have are doing great though!
But next time ill use ideal for the simple fact that theyre cheaper.

They don't have a minimum but right now if you get less than 20 you will get some extra roosters free for warmth.

Ms jellybean, I'm sorry about the moving of your bf. it's very hard when life gives us lemons. Is he too far to visit? I'm thankful for skype, texting and FaceTime on the iPad. This keeps me close to my daughter in Waco.

My Pet Chicken is a good site too. They do have a minimum right now, but I think it is only 15 chicks. It's based on your zip code.
