I'll see if my friend has enough eggs to sell to you too.  She lives close to us - by Slaughter Elementary School.  Isn't that a horrible name for a school?!  It was a recognized teacher in MISD from years ago.  Almost all the schools in the city are named for teachers who made a difference.
That'd be nice :)
Yeah...thats an unfortunate name..lol But good intentions!

I'm in Dallas with a buff cochin bantam, a D'Uccle Millefeur bantam, an Australorp, a Langshan, a Cuckoo Maran that are about 8 months old & 2 Ameracaunas & a Cream Legbar that are about 3 months old. All are free in my backyard. The two rottweilers & the mini Aussie don't bother them but keep the possums out of the yard. The Cream Legbar is my fave. Very friendly & very inquisitive.

Welcome - I am in Ft. Worth. I WISH my dogs were that good. My goldens have "played" with them before and luckily all survived. I only have 2 welsummers, about 3-4 years old. Going to get a couple more that will actually lay eggs (younger ones), not sure what breed. Really leaning to barred rock or wynadotte for the colored eggs and friendliness.

Do you hens have names? Any roosters?

Hi from Houston, everyone!

I set my first hatch in the incubator about 2 hours ago and I have some BLRW bantam chicks coming in the mail next month. Wish me luck on my chicken adventure.

Anyone near me have marans or ameraucana bantams? I want to get some of those next and I'd rather find someone local than ship if possible.

Nice to meet y'all. :D

We love pics of chicks on this site. :)

Made my first "flock block" today. Didn't really follow a recipe but they liked it, just used their layer pellets, scratch, applesauce, molasses, greens, garlic, some herbs, and one egg,and oats. They loved it.

Anyone got a good recipe for treats? I can only find feed and mealworms close by.

I was all set to slaughter my two unwanted cockerels, but my husband sabotaged me.  It is nasty cold, rainy and windy so he decided it was too cold a day to do it and let them out.  They live another week....

It was their lucky day! Lol

I am going to try this today. Great weather to bake.
Man...i need to get my oven fixed! Lol. I miss my baking Sundays

There is a farm that sells eggs in HEB and to Whole Foods whose birds DO get proper pasture.  The HEB eggs are not organic, while the Whole Foods eggs are (and are more expensive).  I can't remember the name of the farm, but I did contact them and specifically ask about the hen's care.  They are rated very highly on lists rank farms based on things like amount of outside time, square feet per bird, etc.  As I said, I can't remember the name of the farm, but they are in Texas.  The HEB eggs are in a paper carton with a creamy label.  I wish I could remember the name, but they are the only eggs I would buy if I didn't have my own.
Thanks for the info!! Can you believe we dont have any HEBs up here?? :( Its one of the things i miss the most about the Houston area. Never thought id miss a grocery store. We DO have a Whole Foods here, where we didnt down there. Its a little bit of a drive but not terrible.

Welcome from McKinney! How do you like your Mille Fluer? I had 3 chicks that didnt make it and Im still kind of kicking myself for not getting them replaced. Maybe next spring..

My mystery chick. It arrived in the box with Wyandottes from Meyer as a "packing peanut". I know there are a lot of chickens that start off as little yellow fluff balls, but anyone want to take a guess at breed? And, I'm not so cruel as to hold the chick upside down. It appears my phone camera doesn't know the difference in orientation.
