Texas

I probably could...What kind of wire? Like Hardware cloth?

I can't wait, we're starting the coop next week.
I love my girls but I'm ready for them to be out of the house! lol
Then I can keep the little ones inside a little longer.
I think I keep getting weird chickens..lol. They all are crazy daredevils.
I had to combine them because the container my 2 silkies were in, was apparently not enough for "Little Blue".
She's fluttered out twice. I woke up last night, heard peeping, and found her walking around in my kitchen...
She's TEENY! how do they do that....lol

Just something to separate them, but still allow them to see each other until the little ones are bigger.

Keep posting pictures! Seeing them gives me hope for me! lol

I thought I saw you on the Orp board the other day! I drool over Johnn's pictures. They're always so pretty! If I was a chicken, I'd want to live there! lol

It's like when I got giidy seeing that one big blue house on Virginia. They have a rod iron fence you can see through and their lot is huge, so when you drive down Louisiana, you can see all the chickens in the yard! lol
I saw another one this weekend, but I can't remember where...
It sprinkled on my way to get the kids!...for about 30 seconds. I heard its supposed to rain tomorrow too. Who knows..

Which feed store?
I really like the one off 380 better. D&L. I've mostly gone to Collin County Feed & Seed but, I don't know if its just me, the guy is always grumpy and borderline snippy :/ D&L staff are always friendly and even carry stuff to the car for me. I tried to tell them I could carry it by myself but...realistically, I couldn't get both the 40lb bag of feed AND the 40lb bag of wood pellets..lol
I like their chick setup better too. ...Now I'm blabbering.

I can't get Eloise or Pearl to stay in their "brooder now.
I usually end up walking around the house like this:

OH! lol, and my sweet Mother in law built me nest boxes...and then asked if we could build a pen around them and if that would be enough....lol. I had to politely explain the reason for a coop

I love seeing chickens around the neighbourhood too. :)
It was Collin County Feed and I know what you mean about the man that runs the place. I need to get up to D&L and the other feed store too to check them out. Tractor Supply has feed as well.

Hot pink, lime green

Remember being 'preppy' back in the 80's and the pink and green that was popular to wear?

I'd like to keep my ManCard...LOL

Make it blend with the house color.

I have a chick!!!! I have a chick!!!!! I have a chick!!!!!
Yeah!

Ms Jellybean how many chickens are you needing a coop for and about what size coop would you be looking to get ? Are you needing a run to keep them all inside a pen or are you letting them out in the day to free range ?
I am planning on 3-5 chickens to start, so I want the coop to hold 5-6 chickens. I want to build a run around the coop that is about the size of a one car garage so they can be out when I can't let them have the whole back yard. I live on a corner across the street from a busy park and I want to make sure my chickens stay my chickens, if you know what I mean.

I am going to draw out my own plans for a sensible and affordable coop. I really like the MetroCoop, but that may be too ambitious for me right now. I have started collecting pallets. I have two in my garage along with some plywood. :)

Yea that's pretty typical of a teen age man/boy/child. He hasn't had the time for a good woman to train him right. (Moms don't count cause we are all just dumb woman put on earth to cook, clean, etc.)
By now I'm sure you have recovered from this and had yet another crisis and probably recovered from that!!!

The boys in my family are so frustrating. My younger brother is demanding and, whenever he asks for something, he expects to just be handed what he needs. I'm so tired of that kind of thing. Then I asked my other brother to take his phone to Sprint tomorrow and get it reset because my phone needs to be activated but it's connected to his phone number. I need the phone to make contact with clients and to talk to a potential employer, but he just said, "Hm, I don't know. Maybe." The problem with him is that he only really comes alive when his girlfriend is around. The rest of the time, he's a bit lazy and...well, cheap. He doesn't give you money if you need it, he "lends". Mom pays for everything (he still lives at home) and he still "lends" money for gas/surprise expenses/etc. How annoying. I had a horrible cold last year and asked him to take my debit card and pick up some thai food for me. He outright refused, saying he didn't feel like it. Gah!!!

I would think TSC would order it in for your specially if it is a product they carry.

I hope so. I still need to check a couple other places, but it is good to find out whether or not they would order specific feeds. It would be worth looking into, on their part.

Have you thought about using Texas Natural Feed? It's a non-soy, non-gmo and non-medicated feed, made here in Texas. I just bought a 50# sack of starter crumbles for $25.00 which I thought wasn't bad since TSC had a 5# bag of starter for $6.59. I looked on their website and they have a dealer in Harlingen, Taubert Farm & Ranch.

That was the place I was looking into! I didn't have a chance to call, though, because they closed at 5:30. I'm going to try tomorrow and ask about prices. If a 50 lb bag costs $25, I'd find a way to make that purchase. Fermenting it might also make it last a bit longer.

I'm working on a couple eggs right now that I think I'm going to post about in the Buy~Sell~Trade section. I have so many egg shells that are just sitting here, practically begging to be painted but with no home to go to. Maybe I can sell a couple for Easter! The one I'm making now is going to have words on it. I'm so excited! The extra money made from the eggs would go back into buying the feed.

I still have a book called The Preppy Handbook. Haha I was a bit weird back then. Maybe it will be a classic one day

Hi, new from the Houston area!

I just bought my first incubator, and I've been reading all about hatching eggs on BYC. There's a lot of information that I'm starting to get overwhelmed!

I'm also watching for any of my hens to get broody so I can try my hand hatching eggs the old fashioned way as well. I'm sure I'll be asking many many questions here soon!
